.... Probably the thing people who haven't seen Star Wars most miss out on is the 100s of pop culture references that crop up in other films and programmes. I'm always having to explain to HID why I'm laughing at something (usually in family guy).

Oh yeah, that reminds me, OP once you’ve seen all 6 going 456123 you must watch Family Guy’s Blue Harvest followed by It's A Trap! and finally Something, Something, Something, Dark Side

You are welcome

Good call, 3 of the best episodes of Family Guy ever.

The only major difference in watching them in sequence rather than order they were made is the obvious huge leap in CGI, as an 10 year old in 77 when the first one came out the graphics were stunning, now it's like watching space 1999 again.

On the subject of films you've never seen I pride myself on never having watched a Rocky film.

Star Wars is a good film, the Empire Strikes Back is even better. The rest are utter rubbish - don't bother.

I had the misfortune to watch some of The Hobbit the other day - similarly chronic.

As to what I don't watch I'm quite fickle when it comes to judging a film/book/tv show based on nothing more that the titles

'Star Wars' no brainer I'm watching it just on the title, but it took me years to see 'Something about Mary' simply becasue I judged it as a crap title

Occasionally I'll miss out on seeing/reading something good as in the above example but generally it serves me well i.e not yet seen Black Swan, Kings Speech, The Artist, Slumdog Millionaire, A Beautiful Mind, Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient.... I could go on

Also don't watch if the synopsis uses certain keywords such as heartwarming, true life tale, a family's struggle, comes to terms with, etc etc

TBH i think you have missed the boat on Star Wars.

Best seen as an 11-14 year old when it came out, nothing had ever been made like if before. in todays CGI film world it just looks old hat.

To back this up, The original Robocop was on tv last week, I remember hiring it from the local video van that used to park up at my mates pub on a friday night (like Blockbuster Video on wheels!) (For the kids, Blockbuster Video was where you rented vidoes to watch) ((A Video is a tape cassette Aka VHS, which you played in a thing that looks like a SKY box with a big letter box))

Anyway, I remember at the time aged about 12! It was amazing, the special effects were cutting edge, that damn ED209 was like nothing i had ever seen! Well, it was rubbish last week! Shows how much the film industry has come on in 25 years.

Agree with all of the above. Can I also add in "gritty drama", ie miserable, life draining, removing joy from the world etc.

Star wars and the second one (empire strikes back I think) were excellent for their time.

The rest are embarrassing, utter drivel and likened to muppets in space.

Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson were appalling and looked ashamed to be there ( a few million squids no doubt helped)

Not seen them fully either. They have been on or around but I've not seen them end to end as individuals or a whole.

I like a lot of other sci fi tho, esp ST:VOY and ST:DS9 as well as SG1 and SGU. Recently enjoying Netflix's good selection of anime.

If you want to watch the 1st 3 movies (as in Episode 1, 2 and 3) but not actually sit through all three (you just want to get the story) then there is an edited version.

http://nofilmschool.com/2014/05/topher-grace-star-wars-editor-strikes-back-redux-jedi

Topher Grace (from That 70's Show) made an 85 minute edit of the first 3 films, which people are saying is better than the first 3 films individually. The downside is that you can't actually watch his version, as it isn't anywhere to watch... but, you can see the trailer for it in the link above.

You can, however, see what other people have done:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhJA7I_8-14

That link is a 2 hour condensed version of the prequel films. So you can see the 1st three movies without seeing the first 3 movies!

Watch 4, then 5&6 back-to-back (5 has a rubbish end and you need 6 to finish it off, even though 6 isn't as good). Then watch 1 whilst sitting on your hands - this prevents you from throwing heavy items at the TV whenever Jar Jar Binks comes on screen. Then watch 2 and 3 and wonder why they weren't as good as 4. Then come back on here and tell us what you thought.
