That's it I've finally had enough - I'm not playing competition golf anymore. I'm just not good enough and don't enjoy it. I was playing a 36 holer today and that is my last....

Had a 77 (nett +1) this morning, never holed a putt and just was going through the motions, missed a couple of 3 footer and a 1 footer (fairly commmon this year) and it did't bother me.

Walked off after 3 holes this afternoon (sorry chaps) after some hassle in a bush - just didn't want to be there...

I played a friendly on Wednesday and loved it - so I'm just sticking to that...

I almost want to type 'I hate golf' but I don't (just yet)....

I reckon I could be off of about an unofficial 10 by Macrahanish (sp) next March....

:( :(

Having seen you play I would say that you are as good as a couple of teaching-pros I play with quite regularly.

Have a little break, play some friendly golf and see how you feel.

I know what you are feeling, I played pool to a competitive standard, jacked in after bottling a black that would have earned me £5k or so so walked away.

Started playing again now but only in pub leagues and the occassional knockout. Hustle a few quid on rare occasions also.

I know that feeling, played a 36 holer with Leftie the other week, 40mph winds and raining stair rods..... hit the ball like a 300+ h/capper.... wasn't pretty.

Once you're freezing and the gear is soaked it's hard to keep your chin up. I generally reserve my other bad play for forum meets! :( :D

If you have lost the enjoyment just take a break, walking off is poor ettiquette,if we all walked off because we were playing poorly there wouldnt be many players on the course.do yourself and your mates a favour and play friendlies until you get your competitive edge back.Sometimes a break is all it takes.Homer lost his Mojo for two days recently[sarcasm]now you cant stop him again.

Walking off is bad but it would have been worse making the other 2 suffer me for another 15 holes - especially as one of them was doing well....it was a mixture of (after 3 good shots too!) bad luck, wrong situation (with no get out) and this f***ing bush that did it.....

No shame in walking off, many a time I have been out there and I just plainly want to be anywhere but on the course.Sometimes your heart just aint in and I have been there even when I have managed to post a decent round.

Anymore than 3 rounds in a week and I tend to get piss bored with the game.

Take a break and I mean a break......4 weeks off and if you are no better when you come back then you ARE in trouble! ;)

More info required re: the bush situation.

Sorry to hear you are a bit jaded. Golf is meant to be fun, so just play the fun games. It's not like we're pro's wo have to play competitive golf.

Yeh been there done that. No shame in walking off, it's only club golf after all and it does take a bit of guts to do it. We all, me included, tend to take this this game too serious at times and it's not serious enough for to worry about walking off.

Right the bush....well I'd better tell you how I got to the bush first....Par 5, 520ish into slight breeze - should be able to get on or near with Driver then 3 wood...Nice drive slightly left but no trouble until it kicks left behind a clump of small trees - 2 choices go backwards to fairway 50 yards or go forwards 100 yards onto other fairway..I choose the latter...

Can't see the flag but work out where it is and laser 170 to trees and back of green and then 60 yards back to my bag, so 230 to trees - the rescue goes 220 max (into wind remember) so choose that and hit it perfect for line and (i thought) distance....partner appears waving arms and making drop actions, so I assume ball is gone so hit provisional.

The boys find the ball by the time I've got there (probably the worst thing that could have happened) in the bushes.. have no option but to try to play out left handed as there is a tree branch in the way so I can't stand at it properly...there is no option to drop sideways or behind and I'm not going back 230 yards when I'm 10 yards from the flag....don't get out and end up in a completely unplayable lie, have to drop back in the bushes but this time it bounces under the branch, so my only option is to tap it 6 inches back to where I was after 3 shots, another go left handed doesn't get out of the bush.....ball, pocket, hand shakes, long walk........home....

It sounds utterly grim. I hate it when stuff like this rears it's head when you/we are on the knife edge of hanging in or crashing out.

Sounds like one bad hole.... some of us do that on EVERY HOLE! :D :D

Played in a forum meet at Cooden Beach, 6th hole, par4, longest drive hole. Hit a crap blocked drive into the ONLY clump of trees on the right hand side... full of blackthorn prickles....3 hacks at least to get it out then missed the green with my approach, chipped on and missed the putt..... had hurt my wrist chopping it out and got a frikkin' blackthorn splinter too, I'd have walked home if it wasn't 50 miles! :D :D

Last time I walked off a course I didn't play again for 7 years... so get back on the course asap and put it behind you.

No problems here either, if you are really hacked off and hating it get out of there. As long as you don't leave another player alone then so be it, we've all been there.
Club has your entry fee so no loss to them. Rest of the day can leave you unsettled, feeling a little hacked off and slightly guilty though imo. :D

SOrry to thear you feel that way. I got to a point earlier in the year where I didn't even want to play socially as I was playing so bad. It culminated in a 4BBB match at Maidenhead with HTL where I literally couldn't hit the ball. It was as though a beginner had taken over and I was shanking, topping, slicing, in fact everything but hitting it straight. I just wanted to walk off and I was so embarrased. The longest four hours of my life. I jacked it in for a week including NO practice at all (either at home, the club or range) for a week and didn't touch a club. A week for me is a long time.

I got a lesson and sorted myself out and played a few friendly games to start with. Evenutally I played the monthly comps with no real thought of winning and managed to scrape a top 3. I'm having an in and out patch at the moment where some shots are great and some (usually chips) are crap. I've given up worrying and hit it, find it and hit it again.

I hope you get your own mojo back soon. Enjoy the social side of things and see how it goes.

About the middle of June I said to HID "if you want me to stop playing right now I will and i'll sell everything and pack this stupid game up for good this time". I too had had enough of it and was sick of playing like a plonker and not enjoying it one bit.

In the end we decided i'd give it til the end of the season but only if I started playing with a 'couldnt give a stuff about competitive golf' attitude. Best thing I ever did and i've started enjoying golf again , dont practise hardly at all now , dont hardly think about it much , couldnt really care if I shoot well in a comp or not.

Bottom line...I've won the club champs and 2 other major comps and my h/c tumbled (see sig) also in final of handicap matchplay. Maybe a new outlook is needed Sammeebee , one that entails just enjoying every minute on the course with no pressure to post a score.

I go away happy now if i've hit just one shot that ended up doing exactly as I intended or hitting a miracle recovery.

Youre far too fired up about it all , its not worth it in the long run

Chin up Sammee......
As for the bush situation.....I just have this mental image of you like the one of Harrison Ford in 6 days 7 nights with Ann heche where he looses it inside a bush.....Very funny if youve seen it ;)

Sounds as though you should have had a hamlet in your golf bag!!!!

Things like that are out with your control , just chillax!

I'll give you £50 for your trolley?! Deal????

Me Too. Played ( started anyway) 36 hole comp yesterday. 23 over par for 9 holes creamed every drive, sank ever putt, shanked everything else. walked off scratched the next round, booked lessons for a new swing no more comps for me this year

Come on fellas,I have played a 36 hole scratch tourney today and played like an utter *** and shot 80-80 but not once did I think about jacking in during the comp, neither am I thinking of a jacking it full time. You can't keep a great man down and a return to competitive matchplay next April will have me back on board.

As a side note a lot of choppers packed in today after 18, now surely they should go up .1 in the 2nd round despite not pegging it up?? The whole system is pish, you play pish 1st round but out of courtesy you go on for another 18 and the same happens so you go up .2 but if you play pish in 1st round then decide you would rather get pished than play pish you only go up .1......where's the logic in that?? :D
