I'm a 22 handicap. I've never practised putting and as a result it's a weak point.

I asked for a putting mat for Christmas with the intention of spending at least 2 hours a week working on it.

Tuesday night I got it out for the first time, it's only 5 foot and tbh I was finding it fairly easy, missing maybe 1 in 7 when trying to rattle them in.

Decided to give myself some pressure by saying to myself I couldn't stop until I'd holed 7 in a row. Proceeded to putt 6 in a row and miss the last one 3 times in succession, I then started having what I thought was a spasm in my left hand from too much practising at once having never spent any time doing it before, so when it happened 3 putts in a row I packed it up and went to bed.

Went to play today, didn't bother going on the putting green as the course was on temps, but after 2 holes I had to switch to left hand low. My left hand has a definite twitch when I go to strike the ball. I can't believe it. I've not been playing for years (took up the game again in 2014), and like I said I've spent basically 0 time practising my putting.

I've just recorded myself taking practise putt swings and also hitting some putts, I can't see any changes between my practise swing and my actual putt, but the twitch/spasm feeling is just horrible.

I think I'm going to have to spend the rest of the night continuing left hand low or trying something like the prayer grip.

Is there anything I can do given I've caught this early? Or am I better off changing grip now and getting on with it? I'm just worried that once I adjust to a different grip, the twitch will come back.

Without being funny, could it be something medical. Have you noticed the twitch when doing anything else with your left hand? If not, speak to a pro and let him see the stroke but I can't see how it would suddenly arrive, especially if you were putting so well. Strange one

I'm sure it can't be anything medical, it only happens for real putts, and if I close my eyes during the stroke it doesn't happen, it's definitely only happening when I can see impact about to happen. Will see if I can grab one of the pros for a couple of minutes before I play tomorrow, maybe a trained eye will spot something I can't.

New putter will cure that for you.;)

Hehe, if I was in a position to throw money at the situation I'd think about it, but I like this putter!
