Israel Folau!?

This guy is a great rugby player but a proper douchebag when it comes to his beliefs.
A few months back he posted that hell awaited gays. It cost him his contract with Australian rugby (and rightly so).
Now the bushfires which are devastating Australia are their fault too???

Tough post to follow. How does he think Gays start forest fires anyway, some kind of friction

Obviously his comments are atrocious.
My thoughts on religion are quite clear. But whilst we still teach/brainwash kids as well as affording everyone freedom of speech, i don’t see how the authorities can really complain.

Obviously he is entitled to hold his views and to express them.

However, he must appreciate that those beliefs are not shared by all and there may be a price to pay for his public pronouncements.

The fact he is saying it in a church, I was gobsmacked. I know having spent a couple of weeks in Oz, well the Aussies will say it exactly how it is. But quite frankly this guy is talking Rammel. How he is allowed to spout his hatred from a pulpit is beyond me.

Christianity is the worst possible religion. It works off the principle that if you do not believe in JC you'll burn in Hell.

15% of Americans believe that global warming is God's will, because God controls the climate. So bush fires are the will of God.

Indeed it is a great pity. Bible literalism (if there is such a word) rarely does anybody any good - in fact it can mostly do a lot of damage. The apartheid regime in South Africa used literal readings (with very little interpretation) of passages in the the Bible to justify their regime, and what a repugnant regime that was.

Not true for all denominations. Though if you don't believe in Hell I wouldn't be too bothered. Again this idea is based upon a literal reading of selected passages from the Bible without any consideration of what the writer was actually getting at in the context of the days it was written.

Not that long ago no one would have batted an eyelid to those remarks by a minister/priest/vicar in a British church.
As a 10 year old I was pretty scared of ending up in hell.

My CoS minister must have been very enlightened - as I don't ever recall as a schoolboy having any such feelings. Mind you he was a regular contributor to Late Call and was, in fact, rather jolly.

There's the land, which he called...the land; there's the sea - which he called...the sea, and there's the bit in between that he called...Ardrossan :)

Agreed. Just as a person can do evil things, repent and still go to heaven but someone else can lead essentially a Christian type lifestyle but not believe in Christianity and goes to hell. Hardly seems a Christian attitude from the top man!

God has a vindictive attitude, and so does his son.
The God of Abraham ordered the killing in the OT. Maybe half a million perished under his instructions.
Jesus wanted his enemies brought before him and slain. He also came into the world NOT to bring peace but to set one family member against another.
Unbelievers WILL burn in Hell. It says that in Revelation. Evangelists also tell me that.

As for me, I came out of the darkness, and one day I will return to it. There is no second life or second death.

For me, my friend its all a load of codswallop and I dont believe in any religion that relies on false Gods

We need more Christopher Hitchens in the world. Still. Tragic.

Is he the brother of Peter "Bonkers" Hitchens? The only person who could rival that stupid woman from the Apprentice in terms of columns for the Daily Mail.
