I don’t post a lot on the forum really, but am always on it reading etc. As the title says really, is there a lot of rubbish talked on here?
The reason I ask is based upon two areas. Firstly, there is always talk of which ball? Which ball is best? Which ball is best value? Etc. Do the majority of posters actually know? Some of the posters are 10+ handicap. Are they really going to be able to judge? Do they really have the game to tell? I think not.
Also, lots of posters are self confessed short hitters. I.e. pitching wedge say 90 yards. If they are hitting a wedge that short distance they are not compressing the ball well enough if at all. So how do they know how well the ball performs?
It’s the same with clubs, these middle handicappers are saying which clubs are best etc, if they are their handicap as they say do they really hit the ball well enough or consistent enough to comment on the performance of clubs etc.
Just a thought, any views?

Sean, Its a general Forum,So everyone gives their own personal comments, what they feel is best for them,if that is,Forged clubs, best balls,no matter what handicap they play too, each to their own I say.....

I think you have a point to an extent. However, no-one in golf has all the answers to everything. Forums are a good place to exchange views and opinions, and hopefully, to educate.

In the end, golf is 90% confidence, therefore, no matter the h/c level, if a set of clubs is working for a person, or the ball looks and feels great, then that is all that matters. People may have the wrong idea of how a ball works under compression, etc., but if it's giving results and performing well, that's all that really matters. :D

sorry, im not trying to have a go. im just asking are do the opinions mean much really? I know its a general forum and a good one. Just curious to others view on it.

It's an Internet forum, people are allowed opinions.
did i say they are not? im asking do people like the ones mentioned above actually have the game to know what balls are best and clubs as at those handicaps, distance they are hitting and swing speed they are not going to to be able to really tell.

The point of a forum is to talk about stuff, its not trash talk. I play off 19 and can tell the difference from ball to ball and club to club.

Here is one for ya... Take a Pro V1 and a A N other hard ball and play keep ups with your wedge with both. Just by doing this, not even hitting the ball you will tell a huge difference. I have a 91.5 mph iron swing and a 107.5 mph driver swing, I am compressing any ball you have.

You dont get many posts saying "this is the best" you get a few that may say "what is the best" and those people are always told that they need to try everything but then are usualy offerd that posters opinion of the best.

Because some of us are not low handicapers does not make us stupid, some of the mid and high handicapers on here are very wise and have a great deal to offer because they are REALLY into golf.

You just need to know how to clean the information on here to best fit you and only you can do that.

Lol, Opinions are like ar$eholes, everyone has one.
T'interweb is great place to hang out but take it with a pinch of salt.

However, this is a great forum with lots of good advice, I would never have considered the bridgestone ball, but after reading good reviews here i gave it a shot, its now one of my favorite balls.

I enjoy readings review of drivers, irons, balls, from a 3 handicap or 23.

The folk on here have played a lot of golf with a lot of equipment and hit a lot of golf balls. No we may not compress the ball properly but do you have to compress it properly to have an opinion?

I don't compress the ball properly but I do see and feel the difference between different balls and have an opinion. Would my opinion mean much to Luke Donald? No. Does it mean much to the other club golfers on here like me? Probably yes.

If none of us had an opinion we'd all play ProV1s because they after all are the longest most controlable ball on the market - aren't they?

Here is a good one for ya,

How can you easily tell the difference between a soft ball and hard ball.

Tap the ball on your lower teeth, the difference stands out a mile.

Your welcome. :D

I think it's a reasonable question,.

I, and probably most others, could immediately feel the difference between a rock and say a pro v. The noise is the biggest give away.

However put a prov 1 and a prov 1x down and I'd have absolutely no idea. The only premium ball I could tell a difference with was a callaway tour ix ( I think) which sounded "clicky"

I personally take more notice of comments made about balls and clubs, from players of similar handicap and ability. A scratch golfer advising on the best balls for high swing speeds, or on the best blades, is not for me, but it will be for some on here.

Now when a short hitting, ancient mid handicapper, like Smiffy makes a comment, it is bound to be more relevant to me. :D :D :D

Is the right answer

The opening poster is correct....there is a whole raft of pish posted on here but it is to be expected.

Go down to any given golf club on any day and there are hundereds of experts on club finances/running,greenkeeping,balls,clubs,swings etc although probably less then 1% actually really know what they are talking about.

All that is posted on here are opinions - it doesn't necessarily mean that a mid-handicapper is talking crap when he expresses an opinion.

If you ask a low handicapper what's the best value ball you are probably going to get a completely different answer than the one you would get from a high handicapper who loses 3-4 in a round.

It's the same with clubs - what are the best for a high handicapper are not in all probability the best for a low handicapper.

I think you will have to take the opinions as you find them - ultimately the only one that matters with your equipment is your own.

I agree with this. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and it would get a bit tedious if 'only' the people best qualified to answer did so. Also tedious for them I'd imagine.

Once you've been reading for a few weeks you get to know whose opinions are worth taking notice of, but almost all are worth reading.

Yes, there is a lot of rubbish spouted on here, but put it this way :- Would you rather come on here and there were 50 new posts to read, or 3?
I've been on forums that there is very little new content on each day, and it gets boring very quickly.

I would hope that we, as members of The Best Forum, post a better class of pish than others post on the rival forums. As the leading Forum around we have to maintain the high standard of pish that gets posted.

To date we appear to be meeting those high standards.

keep up the good work gents ;)

Having just started out - Maybe my opinion isnt worth anything - but it doesnt stop me putting my view across.

Agree this is the best forum by a mile and have received alot of good advice from the full spectrum of HC's on here.

Having been here for 6 months – you get to know the personalities and look forward to the regular responses.

Looking forward to getting to a forum meet in the near future – Openly I guarantee my first tee will go into the cabbage – however bring the binoculars just in cash I clear the green!

Keep up the good work - It makes my day breeze!
