• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Is the forum not a happy one?

I think the majority on here are fine, it is just a small minority who seem to get their kicks from being rude and arguing the toss. MadAdey is right that something in writing can be misinterpreted, where as if it was said face to face it wouldn't be a problem. I have met quite a few on here, and they are all good guys and girls, with a common interest in golf.

Lets not let a small minority drive decent people away from the forum. Bob I am saddened by your post, and hope you know that the vast majority really value your participation and friendship.

With reference to the locked threads, it is a great addition that we never had on the old software. It means we can leave threads largely untouched or keep threads in context (in case some posts were pared) but stop them before they become slanging matches.

Ladies and Gentlemen of The Forum

, This is the best Golf Forum by far, we are a big family linked by golf
and like any family we will have members who are having a bad day or feel that they want to kick something.

and we need to be strong enough and cool enough to accept that and not get miffed when someone has an alternative viewpoint or strikes out a verbal assault, because its not really meant at you personally.

Lets all some together at this special time , we have golfers at 1, 2 and 3 in the world, we hold the Ryder Cup, The Walker Cup and the Solheim cup , we have current winners of The Open and the US Open.

unlike last year at this time. most courses are open, so come together people of the forum
Look at the good, ignore the bad, swing well and putt true.

Amen

I concur

I'm happy and looking forward to Ballyliffin in May :) slightly nervous about nobbing it off the 1st but hey ho.
I like the banter on here and it's easy enough to walk away from a flamer.
Cheers

Steve...

The forum is a great place where you can debate/argue/banter with folk you may have met or just know on here. I ignore the posts that desend into stupid squabbles, as they generally serve no purpose.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

This is a great forum. Informative, entertaining, and yes a bit edgy sometimes.
If a couple of posters want to rabbit on at each other over some trivial matter well that's life.
Personally I ignore it and move on to other posts.
It's that time of year. It's not surprising that the Sweeds get suicidal in the long winter months.

Have a good day all of you tomorrow.

Peter.

Having been here a while now I feel that, generally, everything's trundling along reasonably well.
You get arguments/disagreements along the way and that's to be expected.
For me, and this isn't aimed at anyone specific, sometimes some of us don't know when to let it lie, when to just walk away. The banter gets heated and it all goes to ratpoo.
Take time to read posts properly, take time to compose your reply, especially if your comments could be misconstrued. Will your comment add to the thread? Sometimes a wisecrack 1 liner works, sometimes it doesn't
If your reply doesn't add anything then don't bother. If a thread doesn't interest you/pisses you off then ignore it.
Above all, treat this place like the Clubhouse. Discuss, debate but don't slag.
I've been here nearly 4 years now. Not the longest but a lot longer than a lot of you.
This place is the greatest.
It's the greatest because of us.
Let's keep it that way

No this is a good forum. Ok I can think of 2 or 3 that seem to set out for a row. But it is mostly tounge in cheak!! Err well I think it is. Maybe a few are quick to get on their high horse. But so what. Not much differant to the club house is it? Bob dont you dare go, Myself and everybody on here have the greatest respect, for you. I hope even the ones that disagree with everything you say! If anyone does not like how A tread is going, just move on. Great forum, great guys, great mods.

I agree with all the postives. Any posts that become slanging matches or become totally pointless I just ignore.. jeez that doesnt leave many to read ;)

As a regular on here, I seem to be considered fair game and have felt at times persecuted on here for the things I've written and the way I go about my golf but by and large even the brickbats have been thrown with a modicum of humour. There are several on here that seem intent on replying with nothing but negativity and malice and where a year or two ago I'd have bitten I tend to have my say and move on and leave them to it.

I've had the odd run ins this year, mostly with a few gents north of the border, but even then we've been adult enough to move on and for the most part realise they are on a wind up. It is THE best forum out there and the way we are treated by GM and the golf manufacturers is amazing. I'm not daft enough to expect it to be peace love and harmony all the time and for the most part I love the clash of horns. It does get a bit soul destroying when a good debate descends into personal abuse and hopefully the mods can get right on top of that in 2012 and move them ealry doors so it doesn't dilute otherwise good threads. Nothing worse than reading 3 pages of mixed opinions and then having to trawl thorugh another 2 of name calling, and at time vitriolic gut spilling diatribes.

I don't think the forum is any less or more happy than it has been. It goes in peaks and troughs as people come and go (timmygolf???) and I have really enjoyed exchanging points of view and even letting you guys have your thoughts on my swing. Its been great to meet a fair few of you at meets and GM events like Powerplay and hopefully 2012 will be bigger and better on here.

I totally agree with Homer on the way GM treat the members of the forum, they treat us more like friends than just costomers of the magazine, I think this is typical of golfers though. We are all welcoming of our fellow players and have a camaraderie that is the envy of many other sports. For me the fact that all opinions are welcome and open to debate is one of the assets of the forum, we are all different but I say vive' la diifferance, it makes for an interesting read.
If anyone does get on his high horse he is soon dismounted anyway.
