Now, this isn't having a dig at anyone in particular.....
We all know this is a golf forum and not an English language forum, so what does it matter ?

I don't really mind if someone spells a word wrongly here and there.
What if someone says it's 'a good read ' or 'a big ask' that gets on my nerves a bit.
And what if they dont say please or thank you, who cares ?

but wen people start to right in such a way taht it becomes dificult too reed that reeli windsmeup

Write however you want to but bear in mind, whether rightly or wrongly, if you make the effort in your posts, you are likely to get a bigger response in reply.

happy knew yeer

:D

Agreed

It does annoy me when simple words are spelt incorrectly or punctuation missed but I let it go - life's too short to get wound up about things like that.
It can get difficult reading some posts - you can't tell where sentances begin or end and which words are doing what - but who really cares...?
As long as the point gets across to everyone else - that's the thing that matters.

Agreed.....
i get regular texts from an old Leicester mate that lives in Hobart, Tasmania, and he is the only person i know that can text with a Leicester accent...Knoworramean... Aaaaarrrrggghhh!!!
Happy New Year Bob and to all on the forum... ;0)

Yes it is important to me. I went to school and was taught to read and write. I use that skill every day, now I am no brain box but I can spell, sure I type words incorrectly from time to time, we all do but just read your post before you submit it and correct your mistakes. It only takes a second or so and gives a better impression to others who read that post.
Very happy new year Bob, thanks for all of your help in 2011.

Yup, it's very important to me, mainly because its a crucial part of my job. However, I won't criticise others on here as I don't know there circumstances, etc.

I write reports on a daily basis and sometimes they go in front of a judge. In work I get paid to take time make sure things are correct and grammar is used correctly. On here its for a laugh.

If people make a mistake so what? We all do and all will!

As Bob said so long as you can understand what they mean easily enough is it really a problem!?!?!?

I sometimes think people should join a language forum!.

Another point is English may not be every ones first language (the dyslexia thing always gets a mention) so give people a break or get a life!

A guy I work with is a proper dyslexic. His emails are far worse than anything I've seen on here, and because of experiencing them I'm far more tolerant than I used to be. I know how frustrating it can be for the sender, and how hurtful it is when someone takes the proverbial.

If I can't understand what's been posted I'll just leave it.

Best wishes to everyone in 2012.

my gf gave me a great comment when we had just started dating, I am the only one she knows who fully spells words when texting!!

I think spelling and grammar are important, I understand some people suffer with dyslexia and aslong as that is understood from the outset then all well and good.

A word of warning though, judging by my kids and their online activities and general written text... its going to get a lot worse in the future!

My lad is 19 and will not reply to my texts if they contain text abbreviations. He cannot abide text speak and never uses it. Nice to see, for me anyway.

Good spelling and grammar is important to me, I have picked up a few other posts before although that's a rare thing as I don't want to come across as a pompous t%@t. What annoys me though are posters that apparantly type in teenage text speech or are too lazy to re-read what they have typed before posting.

By the way: :ears:

I always text in full with punctuation but I am not so old and fuddy duddy as to get uptight with those who dont. On here it's the one's who write in such a way that it's virtually impossible to understand the posting that I give up on reading and I absolutely wont read text speak on here

Chris

Spelling not so much. But I don't like seeing long posts with little or no punctuation. It is just a balls to read, how hard is it to hit the space bar or enter key?

it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

if someone is genuinely making mistakes then who cares,i'm not going to lose sleep over it and i'm certainly not going to be the smart arse who picks on them for it.

also simple spelling mistakes can be typo's and anyone with a bit of common sense can work out where a simple typo has occured....

They're important to me, but only in as much that I'll read my posts before I submit them to make sure it looks right.

I couldn't give two hoots what other people's spelling is like and wouldn't try to correct anyone on a forum.

Incorrect grammar doesn't bother me either, but no punctuation at all and posts that look like one long sentence just confuse my eyes and I won't read them.

One of the worst thing to me, for making posts unreadable, is not using a space after a comma or full stop.

I'm sure the world won't lose any sleep over me not reading a few posts. It is what it is. :)

Some people seem to get off on picking out mistakes in posts. That gets on my goat more than any poor spelling, WAY more!
