Dellema here, have been using Ping G2 irons for about a year now and makeing slow progress, last week took my lads Wilson Fat Shaft Tour Cast out for a knock and for some reason seem to be striking the ball cleaner and straighter. So what should i do, perservere with the ping or continue with the Fat Shaft.

Have you considered a lesson?

Maybe the pro will spot something you cant see?

I dont know anything about either of those set of irons, but are one meant to be easier than the other to strike?

Be honest how good is your ball striking on a scale of 1-10? if its low, then maybe you should consider a course of lessons to improve or if not, maybe some easier clubs to use.

It's NEVER the clubs.

A good player will score well with pretty much any clubs from the main manufacturers.
Do they have the same flex shafts in?

You should see what JustOne knocks it round very close to par with!!

Having said that, if you want to change and can afford it then why not if you play better with different clubs. The problem is not knowing if there's anything better than the Wilsons out there for you.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'd go along with that, I got a set of clubs when I was 18, with graphite shafts, used them for years and always suffered with a BIG fade, I wouldn't call it a slice because I could work with it but I always felt it was costing me shots. Several years later (at least 7), the head flew off the 3-iron, so I used it as an excuse to get some new ones, went to the local range/pro-shop and told them what I wanted and hit a few demo clubs on the range.

First thing the bloke said to me was "what the hell are using graphite shafts for? Your swing speed is way too fast for them" and he was right, as soon as I started hitting steel shafts the fade reduced by a good ten yards, going to stiffer steel shafts in my current set brought it in another couple of yards again.

I still hit a fade now but it's very gentle, I've not had a lesson in the meantime and haven't really done anything to change my swing. So in my case it WAS the clubs. For SEVEN YEARS!!!!!

Lessons is what ya want....

as you know i'm having them...lol

just can't put my finger on why i have started striking the ball better.

I'm gonna go out for 9 holes with my G2 irons and i'll report back later if the news is good

I would say the clubs have a major part to play, I had a graphit shaft driver and I sliced nearly every single shot. I went for a lesson and after just one hit he told me I needed a stiffer shaft as the head was twisting on the downstroke. The very next shot I used a driver with a stiff shaft and it went straight and about 50 yards further with the same swing!

My driver and fairway woods now all have aldila stiff shafts and they go straight down the middle every time.......cough cough!

Unless they have super-senior graphite/ladies ultraflex/x-stiff tour spec or are the wrong fit by a mile (like gold/brown or maroon/silver) it'll be you.

Thanks for your input gents.

Went out earlier and apart from one drop shop and a shank, played below handicap for 9 holes.

Competiton time tomorrow, hopefully my swing and nerve will hold out.

It must be the clubs. I'm off to a ping demo day tomorrow to try out the S56 and I15's. I don't need new clubs but the lure of hitting something new is too strong. I do have a mind to have a look at the G15 drivers too as everyone on here rates them

Apologies, I should have been more specific.

It's never the club heads :D
