Is he counting the grains of sand?

Though Kuchar's action obviously wasn't against The Rules, methinks this rule needs to be amended slightly (no idea how, but there plenty of great minds for this sort of thing available to R&A/USGA) to ban this sort of action. It certainly seems, to me, to be 'against the spirit' of The Rules.

Not my problem, I'm merely quoting what used to be written on the first page of the rules, although after a quick scan of the 2019 rules it seems to have disappeared...
(I know the next line was "But to do what is fair, you need to know the rules of golf")

I still think this epitomises all that's wrong in modern golf, looking for every last advantage ((especially in terms of clubs/equipment ;)) no matter what that might do to the original spirit of the game.

And yes, I am a dinosaur living in the past.
But he was conforming to the Rules of Golf which he obviously knew.

I would suggest the 'great minds' have more important things to do (at least in the eyes of the RBs).

Beats me how it can damage his reputation when he was acting in full view of a Match Referee who approved his actions and with the subsequent confirmation of the Tournament Referee.

Unless, of course, due to other incidents some people are determined to trash him by ignoring the facts.

After all my last golfing hero, Seve, was pretty good at using the Rules to his advantage and, by the way, was notoriously tight (imagine him in Caddygate) but I don't recall too many having a dig at his reputation.
I would liken it to gardening on the greens if it delays play then it’s wrong just my opinion.
As you say the ref gave him the ok
But just because you can dosnt mean you can take that long.

Maybe ask Dustin Jonson he was penalised for grounding his club in a waste area that had been deemed a bunker just for the US open.
Whistling Straights I think.

Didn't cost Johnson much though did it! ;)

Btw. That incident is completely irrelevant to this thread.

How is that relevant ? It wasn’t a waste area for DJ it was a bunker

Is it ! Foxholer posed the question how it could be avoided .
Making waste areas into bunkers like in the US open at WS would have stopped Kuchar gardening.
1. Have a look at whose post you quoted!
2. I can't remember posing any question!
3. No it wouldn't have stopped him (these days)! That's why it's irrelevant!

You think the rule needs amending , then say “no idea how!”
While it may not be a direct question (sorry) I have just suggested a way how.
I don’t think any pro golfer would get away with that in a bunker.!

Given that loose impediments may now be removed from bunkers, what difference would it make if it was a waste area? It's 2019 now.
Do you think a pro golfer would get away with that in a bunker.

I know you can move loose impediments now but this is more than that imo.
