Is golf best played in the Morning?

There's something alluring about turning up to a course with about 90 mins until darkness and seeing how many holes you can squeeze in. The course is normally quiet and the wildlife is starting to appear. Particularly the point when you are playing through the gloaming. Time for one more hole?

Magnificent!

I have to set the alarm 5 days a week for work so I certainly don't want to have to set it at weekends as well if I can avoid it.

I used to play early, now more in the afternoon. Pluses and minuses for both. If you play first thing you have the rest of the day to yourself, the round generally goes quicker as the course is not as full. If you play in the afternoon the dew has lifted, if appropriate, the wind tends to drop and if you are happy to play much later the course can be quiet. Swings and roundabouts and ultimately I am happy to do both.

Wind tends to drop in afternoon? I find that morning tends to be still and more often than not, the wind will pick up during the day.

People who love golf in the morning usually have something other than golf on their minds. its not their fault, family and other life things get in the way

An early morning game is nice now and again but come on, no one dreams of teeing it up early on a Sunday at the masters.

To be honest, i would be pretty damn chuffed to tee it up early Sunday morning at the Masters...

First group out every weekend, we get the benefits of a clear course, no hanging around, and finished by 11am. The only downside is that sometimes the hot food and drink isn't always ready at the halfway hut if we fly around the front 9. But that's a small price to pay for having a clear course.

When my wife didn't play, I preferred to play in the morning to get home, sometimes teeing off as the light appeared upto a more normal time of 7.30-8.00am.

Nowadays I really don't mind when I play, when we play we sometimes play in the evenings(weekday) or afternoon at the weekends, as the course tends to be dead, so we can get round at a nice pace and have fun.

Same for me but it just means my body says wake up 7 days a week whether I want it to or not. So prefer to play early and spend the rest of the day with family as I am already up and about.

I'll play anytime but tend to gravitate to early mornings (around 8.00am) as that is when the weekend roll up goes out. In the drawn comp it can be anytime from 8.00 until 11.00 and happy with any time.

Must admit that when my kids were young I used to tee off at 0700 on a sunday and have been known to go off at 5ish to get a round in before work but now I play whenever mornings evening afternoons its all the same to me however, as been said before, early morning dew is a nuisance I can do without.. Given a preference I do like a couple of pints afterwards and I dont like drinking at lunchtime!!!

I used to love to get a round in before work, round the course sub 2.5 hours.. arriving at work having already played 18.. great..

I think it's all down to your own body clock. I play, in comps on a Sunday, at about 8.30-9am then I'm back in time for Sunday dinner at 2pm. Unfortunately my body clock is more suited to pm. I'm lucky enough to be able to play in an afternoons during the week and play much better than I do on a Sunday morning. ( no it's not to do with being in a comp).

I am a junior golfer and I shot a 56 on nine holes at night. Then a week later in the morning I went out and scored a 44 on a par 35 nine hole course. I completely prefer to play in the morning and so does my Dad

Im more of a middle-morning man...

A 10.40 tee off is ideal, it allows me to wake up at a reasonable time (8am), have some breakfast and be at the course for 9am.

I then like to have a good 15 mins stretch before a nice 45 minutes in the nets, I tend to warm up by playing a course I know well in my head so that I rotate round my clubs.

I'll then do 15 mins putting/chipping if allowed before a final 10 ball strikes with my driver into the nets.

I now feel ready and comfortable to play my round of golf.

45 minutes in the nets!

Each to their own, but a few stretches and swings tends to work for me - i want to save all my good shots for the course.

Have played mornings in the past but much prefer a lunchtime tee-off these days. Low sun, dew, finishing mid morning before the bar opens isn't for me. Understand family/other commitments often force this approach but in pure golfing terms I think a later time gets the best of the conditions and a more social day if time isn't an issue.

Evenings for me, especially in the summer. The course is quiet, and it's great to finish as the sun's setting.

It's a good time of day to have a post round beer as well.

I'm not a fan of golf in the heat of the day with the sun beating down.
