I just have never really had any desire to play in the afternoon unless it's unavoidable.

In my mind golf is a morning sport, played as early as possible! In the afternoon my desire to tee it up has always waned.

Anyone agree? Are you an anytime golfer or a morning only unless forced golfer or other?

i will try and avoid playing in the afternoons as its too busy and doesn't really allow you to do anything else.

during the summer i will try and tee off at about 6am although on 2 occasions this year i tee'd off at 5am.

I'm happy to play anytime as long as it is light. I prefer morning though as it tends to be quicker I find.

I play most of my golf in the summer, and there is nothing better imo than a summer evening, getting to the course at 7 ish after work after tea, having the course to your self and knowing you can get 18 in without any holdups.

Also Sunday afternoons are not a bad time to play in a comp if youve had a breazy morning, quite often the wind has died down by 4 ish.

I love how the course looks when the sun is setting....and it means you feel less guilty having a pint afterwards 😁😁

I mostly always playing in the evening. Try to time it to start so I have enough time to get 18 in before dark.

Playing in the mornings the course is too busy. All seniors playing 5 hour rounds. In the evening can get the course to yourself most the time.

Each to their own, dont function too well early in the morning so personally prefer to play mid to late afternoon. In comps I always ask for as late a tee as possible, the one that hurts usually is club champs where day 1 is in handicap order and I get a tee time about 3 hours before Im fully awake (at least thats my excuse!)

The direct opposite to this.

People who love golf in the morning usually have something other than golf on their minds. its not their fault, family and other life things get in the way

An early morning game is nice now and again but come on, no one dreams of teeing it up early on a Sunday at the masters.

Most of my golf is played in the morning simply becasue that's when the comps kick off but I'm happy to play anytime (afternoons tend to be quieter) Also mornings tend to be fractionally cooler, the afternoon heat can be brutal for much of the year

Evenings not an option as even in summer its dark by 7pm

I agree that morning is best

We meet at 06:30 in the morning , first off the tee course in perfect nick , then done by 10:30-11:00 a bit of breakfast , then we still have the rest of the day to spend with family or go to watch football or rugby or go back to work

During the week we also meet up late in the afternoon in the summer - a round followed by a bit of grub

I used to play early, now more in the afternoon. Pluses and minuses for both. If you play first thing you have the rest of the day to yourself, the round generally goes quicker as the course is not as full. If you play in the afternoon the dew has lifted, if appropriate, the wind tends to drop and if you are happy to play much later the course can be quiet. Swings and roundabouts and ultimately I am happy to do both.

I don't mind playing at anytime during the day generally.

I find that playing late in the day with that low sun highlights every little mark and scuff on the green, making me think that getting the ball to run to the hole will be impossible.

I do like playing early on greens that are pristine

I dont mind when I play. Time of year usually has an influence though.
If its winter and its particularly cold I wont go out and play on temps if the greens are frosty. But by 11 o'clock they are usually thawed out so it's worth waiting if I have nothing else on.

I also hate playing when there's a dew on the greens because as you start getting the pace, the back half dries out as the sun rises and the ball goes racing by.

Equally though in the summer I love getting out at the crack of dawn and playing 18 before breakfast. Getting home to a full english and having a full day ahead is worth getting out of bed for when its still dark.

And the evening game with a pair of headphones in playing on a deserted course as the sun goes down is also very enjoyable and a great time to practice on the course.

To summarise, I'll play whenever it suits. Im not fussy.

I enjoy playing both but i prefer late afternoons as i can clear any family/work commitments during the day so nothing is pressing my time - a beer afterwards feels 'right' rather than at 11.00am!

I usually play soon after 8am on a Sunday morning and in the afternoons on a Wednesday and Friday. Its noticeable that the wind often gets up here in the early afternoon
