Played 18 holes yesterday morning and suddenly the slice/ fade returns to the driver, every single drive either set off right and kept going or started straight only to veer off right violently (and disastrously into trouble!) very frustrating as I thought I had cured this :( I even tried Bob's quick-fix of lining up as though to hit a draw to no avail :D

After seeing a repeat on the 18th I noticed a white paint mark on the bottom of the driver from the wooden tee I was using. The angle of this tell-tale stripe clearly indicated an out to in swing path!

Went straight to the range to experiment and found that by moving the ball slightly further inside my heel and concentrating on keeping the backswing low seemed to improve things dramatically. I don't have a problem getting a high ball flight, in fact if anything it's probably too high robbing me of a little distance on roll.

Played another 18 in the afternoon and didn't miss a single fairway, :D although I did still hit the occasional slight fade.

Bit achey today though lol

Had a playing lesson during last week and one of the things the Pro got me to change was my grip, the right hand was "a bit too strong" apparently.

I really should get my swing flmed and posted on here, as much for my own viewing, no doubt when I actually see the swing myself it will be a lot different to how I imagine it to be!

The paint mark across the bottom of the club was surely an indicator of the swing path though? it was perhaps 30 deg! :D

A stronger grip will generally CLOSE the clubface. What's "feel or reel"?

Interesting to see that despite your prodigious moaning you've managed to start offering advice in the "Experts" section - too funny for words Billy! :p

What you're trying to say (I think) is that he's rolling/leaving his wrists open at impact? I agree.

I'm sure I posted on this thread but its gone.....how strange.

Just to throw into the mix that he could be hanging back on his right side through impact, causing shoulders to open and cutting across the ball?

Don't think it's that, I tend to move towards the ball on all but short game shots

Ah - is the 'move towards the ball' a lateral shify of the hips?

With irons I would say a definte yes, but with the driver more trying to clear the left hip and get my upper body facing towards the target.

I used to slide my hips rather than turn then which led to a lot of blocks. If ou have an open club face at teh same time this could be causing your shots to start right and then go further right.

Bob....stop me please!

Stop
If it were a block he would be in to out on the downswing. Whereditgo has said his swing is out to in, the ball starting straight or right and going more right.

I still think what Billy said was right. You start with the new grip neutral at address but during the swing it slips back to where it wants to be (strong) causing the face to open.
Try, just for curiousity going back to your old grip and see if that reduces it from a slice to a fade. After all, a fade will listen :)
Let us know how you get on

It was the GRIP, it was the GRIP, it was the bloody fuggin GRIP!!!

Down to the range after work and started with my old grip - fairly straight with a slight fade.

Then changed back to the new grip and really concentrated on maintaining the same grip throughout the swing, hey presto! it starts straight and then draws left!

Thanks fella's have a couple on me [][] ;)

Still doesn't explain that paintmark on the bottom of the driver though :D

I'm glad your hitting it better. I told you Billy was right it was the grip:D
Dont worry about the markings on the club, just enjoy driving it down the middle.
