hi need a new set of irons. i like the titleist AP1 irons at £370 but there are the nike RV full cavity at £390. could people recommend me on which ones are better value for money and better quality overall.

You could listen to what everyone says on here regarding their views Pete, but unless you can hit them yourself it matters not a jot what I or whoever thinks.

Get out and try the clubs for yourself. Dont buy on the views of somebody else.

How long is a piece of string. Many of us could recommend loads of different sets of irons, of ones we've owned or tried, or even ones we might have available for sale second hand ;)

However, as Andy was pointing out, if you want someting good, you really need someting that suites you. Try a load of irons out. If you already have tried out those Titleists & Nikes you quoted, then you can decide for yourself easy enough... As for value for money, well theats a personal thing we all have to decide for ourselves, as what is important for one person as regards value for money might not always be the same for all concerned.

You already seem to have quite a collection of woods, even satans tool... the chipper. But what on earth possed you to get these Slazenger hybrids.Thing is if you are used to those it may take you a while to ween yourself off that type of club & a big cavity club like say Ping G10's might be the way to go. Personally I hate the G10 irons, but that is my personal taste. Of the ones you've listed I'd guess at the moment the Nike RV irons might be the best at least in a transition period.

But in these uncertain times why buy brand new, when good or reasonable quality second hand can be found everywhere.

Its really only Vanity that makes us all get tempted by shinny new equipment. I know, I've been there.

There are a number of brands I could point to or recommend, or that your pro or local golfshop fitter could guide you in the direction of.

As I say, how long is a piece of string.

well if i had the choice i would have never have bought the slazengers they are horrible! :( i was given them for free but do not have enough money to replace the full set yet. however in a month or two i think i will get a new set

Get yourself fitted. It makes a huge difference. Mizuno have a few places you can go to and if your feeling flush book in to Gainsborouogh for some pings (or find a ping demo day at your local AG).
I have just got some MX200's which i am still getting to grips with, but would still vouch for them ! Whatever you buy you wil have fun looking !!!

The short answer os to go to an AG or similar (or large pro shop) and try as many as you can on a range and not in a bay or a net where you can't determine the shape, flight or distance. Alternatively look out for demo days of brands you are interested in.

Try before you buy but go with an open mind. C/F isn't a necessity if you are still newish to the game. If you have lessons, a pro may change things which could impact the way a club sits and this may negate the set up you were measured for.

i have had lessons from my pro and am now a very competant player and now have the knowledge to correct myself and only need advice for tiny imperfections, but hardly any of them are there hahaa
i think i am going to try out the callway x22s as not only are they a stunning club i have found a great price £350 so excited :) just need to pay for my 909D2 only £150 :D

If you are very competent, why would you want to play with X-22s?
