Well I've decided to get new irons for Xmas. But not sure what. Currently use titleist ap2 1st edition with project x5.5 shaft they are standard lie and length. Handicap 6 but play once every 12/14 days looking for something a little for forgiving. Now I've never been fitted but driver swing speed is 96. So normally have stiff shafts in driver 3 wood etc. my ap2 go ok but feel they are not as forgiving as I would like. I looked at a set of ping i20s. But online fit puts the clubs at +0.5 and silver lie which is 3.75 deg upright reg cfs shaft. Any other suggestion I did try the speed blade but with stiff shaft and I blocked every shot.I don't want to spend over £600 as wife is paying most of it.so looking for a club between better player and game improvement and ideas.

what about the 714 AP2's, blurb seems to say they are more forgiving etc etc plus if you already like Titleist (who doesnt) then it would be a good transition, their fitting centre is apparently very good and maybe you'll go AP1's if the stats and feel is right

how about a split set ? game improvement for langer irons , better player irons in the short irons

certainly wish i had done this with my 4/5 iron!!!

When I had my mizuno dna fitting I went in dreaming of the 64's but the pro suggested the jpx pros and i am very happy with them, they may not look as good but the forgiveness is noticeable, similar to the mp53's with the pocket cavity in the longer irons and still forged, certainly worth considering.

Loads of clubs that fit. Cally X Hot Pro or I20 would be my ones of choice as I like the looks and there is playability with forgiveness. Plenty of other options though and its all about trying before you buy

Wait until January and jump on a set of Wilsonstaff FG Tour M3 irons....

They'll be just as good as any of the offerings mentioned above and you'll probably have enough change out of the £600 to maybe even buy a hybrid or Wood as well.... Win win....

How can you put i20's and ap1's in the same class. There's a massive difference between them
Que?
I tried the previous generation AP1s and 2s, they were rough compared to he mizuno's and my i15s were a little worse but more forgiving than the mizuno's ...

The black heads look really good Wilson is something I've never really thought about but very tempted. Just need to find a place to demo them. Also like the idea of waiting for i25 to come out. Any official date yet

I have been playing away at clubs lately and I don't think there is much to call between the latest iterations of ap2 irons although perhaps more so compared to the original. There were suggestions of Titleist CB but these are much more players than the AP2. The MP54 seem to, more or less, compare to the current AP2 so YMMV. The X-hot pro seemed maybe a bit easier to hit and I thought they were a bit like the 825 pros, without the forged head. Rocketbladez tour probably something similar. For more forgiveness than this, you start having to deal with offset and, as a 6 handicapper, this might not be what you want. The AP1 was about as low offset as we could find in the GI category but still found them a bit much but that is a personal thing. I don't think there is much doubt that they are more forgiving than anything else mentioned. So to my mind the Titleist CB are comfortably the least forgiving and AP1 the most. The AP2/MP54 are a bit less forgiving than the 825pro/X-hot pro/RB tour but I didn't think it was night and day and I could conceive that some might disagree, depending upon their swing characteristics.

Bottom line is to try a bunch of clubs and see what you like, I have found some surprises along the way which no internet forum would ever have suggested!

I did a Mizuno fitting a couple of years ago and they tried really hard to push me on to the JPX's which I resisted because I just didn't like them at all, looks or strike. They tried the same with a low handicapper who came from my club and just happened to have the following slot. I wonder if the fitters are told to ignore what the customer says he wants and push certain clubs if he gets the chance?

i had a mizuno fitting and the guy told me to go with the mp53s cos i was more consistent with them dispite me occasionally clobbering the jpx 6iron a country mile

Could be I guess, I'm glad I got them though, I think they look good by the ball, not a huge difference in top line/offset etc and still have the mizuno forged feel, just with a little extra forgiveness. What did you get in the end? the ap2's?

Purchased new Irons this year. The AP2's were top of my list (went to a fitting and then took a demo 6 Iron out on course with the recommended shaft in) however I felt the same as you, when you flushed it..... Superb, but for me there was little forgiveness for the off center strike. So the search widened, and I tested the Mizuno 825 JPX Pro. Loved them, the strike was superb as they are forged and I felt the level of forgiveness was there without looking like a shovel. Tested them at the AG/Mizuno fitting alongside the AP2's with similar shafts in, and to my amazement I was a full club longer with the Mizunos, this is still consistent as I was always a club back on my playing partner, whereas now we are equal or I am taking the lesser club. My only negative is I think the 2014 model looks a bit gimicky with the addition of a lick of orange, however if they still feel as good as my 2013's that wouldn't put me off buying them. Give them a try..... Good luck.

I switched from Mizuno MP62 's to the JPX825 pro this year and they are so forgiving.

the are not the best looking clubs behind the ball, but well worth a shot.
