Popped down to Muirfield today to watch the 2nd day of the Home International matches. Happily for me, I watched Scotland defeat the Auld Enemy by a resounding 10 points to 5 in beautiful weather ......but Ireland seem to have the event sewn up, having already roundly beaten Scotland and Wales already.

I'm guessing England are still in with a chance if they beat the Irish tomorrow but judging on performances so far that seems unlikely. Here's a link to the scores so far;-

Ireland are on a roll at the moment, in both amateur and pro golf. Any reason or just a cyclical thing, d'you think?

As an aside, I was surprised at the very poor spectator attendance. Most were at the signature hole as you can see in these photos.

This is the premier amateur team event in the UK and there were maybe only 150 spectators all day! Apart from an e-mail from the SGU I didn't see it advertised at all. What's going on? Poor show SGU! Me and my mate were the only guys following our group most of the round.

the fact that you could take photos at all is a bonus, but poor showing by the organisers and presumably sponsors (?) for the lack of advertising.

I'm just surprised that with FREE entry, an East Lothian population of retired golfers and the bonus of no ropes to have to walk behind (we walked down the fairway beside the golfers) Muirfield could only muster up 1 man and his dog to support our boys. I've seen more at our Club Championship final!
