So I downloaded the iPing App and give it a whirl with some elastic bands.

it doesnt sit well at all, but even with the makeshift setup I was impressed with the data.

Anyone fork out for the cradle - it must be worth it as there is not a single one available on ebay.

Also - anyone else think the putter weight is totally different? thus making it all pointless?

Out of interest - I compared my stroke to Angel Cabrera and surprise surprise the Ping staffer has the better stroke :)

One of the very good youngsters at our places has one and they all use it regularly and swear by it as a tool to check how they are doing. If you have the time to spend regularly on the putting green then for me the cost is relatively minimal for the feedback you get

thanks fellas - £25 for the cradle seems steep but the feedback is good from it.

Not sure I trust the data I get when I use the elastic bands.

thought the cradle was preposterously expensive for what it was, though i suppose the app is free. i haven't tried it myself but looking at one i thought it must be possible to fashion some sort of equivalent much more cheaply.

it looked like typical golf mark up. cost £0.20, normal retail price £2.00, stick the word golf on it and charge £24.00

I tried one on our putting green as one of the juniors had it. It really is an amazing bit of kit. £24 to improve your stroke is a no brainer for me. Just a shame I don't have an iphone or I'd buy one.

I've got one, I tried the elastic band approach, but it wasn't that good, you could try making you own with an old iPhone case, superglue and a plastic pipe clip, the thought did cross my mind, but in the end I got one for my birthday.

In my mind the cradle is well worth it, £25 for unlimited data and feedback

Dufferman - in the same frame of mind now. I will purchase one now having tinkered with the app.

yet to see any negative feedback. only complaints I have seen is the price of the cradle. From what I have read, £25 is a bargain :)

25. I'm investing in one too after this thread. Played a PB Saturday just gone and had 3 3-putts, so I'd like to improve that! For £25, it's worth a shot.

I made my own using a 99p ipod touch case from ebay and a rubber shaft vice clamp for £3 super glued to the back, does the job no problem for fraction of the price.

I have all the bits to make my own but never got round to it, rubber shaft clamp and old case from ebay, £3 in total. Should work in theory...

Only prob is i upgrade my 4 to a 5 tomorrow... so if anyone wants a good working/condition 4 16gb let me know ;)

Thought I'd follow up on this for the benefit of anyone considering the iping cradle.

The £21.24 seems like a bargain now. I used it for a week with my ping anser and came to the conclusion that I need a new putter!

very inconsistent results from the ping, especially the impact angle - mine varied from 4* closed to 3* open.

Got myself an odyssey no7 and the impact angle is consistently 3* closed.

My best session has seen consistency of 4, and the pHCP is at 10. I recommend the cradle highly.

Very tempted to get one of these. What was putting me off was the extra weight on the shaft and what effect it would have. But the feedback here seems mostly positive. It would be a good starting point for working on my putting over the winter
