Itll certainly replace a few folks netbooks but looks waaay too fragile ad if its anything like my iphone 3gs it will need a sleeve on the back and a protective touch screen film.
I've been thinking about getting some sort of e reader for a while so will definitely be having a look at this. The one thing I can't get past is the cost of e books, they're basically the same as the real book. Surely they should be considerably cheaper
I've got a sony e reader, and the e books are more expensive than published ones. I can't see how the ipad is going to be a good reader though, as the e ink technology in a reader doesn't make a good pc screen, and vice versa. The e ink screen also only uses battery power when you turn the page.
I have about 150 books on my reader, but they are bought off ebay, as in Wilbur Smith complete collection, £3. So I just pick an author I like, and buy the lot.
I use it when I go abroad, rather than take loads of books with me. Bear in mind, you can't just buy a new book in China if you run out of things to read.
Also, the sony reader is the size of a paper back book. The ipad is HUGE.
I have a laptop (17"), a netbook (9") and the missus has a ipod touch.
I take the netbook around to catch wi-fi whilst out and about, mostly when in Birmingham, Manchester or London. Out of the 3 gadgets, it's the weakest proposition.....too small for video and even GM forum.....too big for the pocket.
It's not the guaranteed winner that was the ipod and iphone.
They'll sell though, some people will happily part with £500 to look up-to-date on the daily commute from Reggie Perrin land. Laptop or iphone.....big or small, Tommaytoes or Tomatos, Phil or Tiger, Beer or Lager......
Maybe the great plan is to hope to capture the middle ground.....does it exist?
