Investments - Strategies, Ideas, Options & advice

I have a JISA for my son, it is funny how compounding works. He gets a tiny amount via DD into it. but over the years, it has worked the compounding magic.
his has Fidelity US Index... up 78% and recently added Jupiter India for diversification, up 8%. All the small amount from skipping an Xbox game or a new phone, means he should be able to finish Uni without student debt... unless something seriously goes wrong.

his portfolio is doing better than mine. Simply because we dont dabble in it. it is simply add money, buy passive fund, rinse repeat. In my investments, i get in the way to keep tweaking. Simply shows that emotions are the worst enemy when it comes to investments.
Yep, that's why people get scared of investing and say stupid stuff like it's just a gamble.
For most simply putting some aside in a passive fund and left alone will do well. Especially if your young and have time on your side to ride out the rough times.

Today's rate cut will see savings rates drop soon enough. Still some reasonable cash rates , but with more cuts likely, wont be long before 3% return seems like a good deal.😬😬
On that note I took a punt and fixed my mortgage at base rate + .55 hoping we'll see 3.5 early next year

Good luck… btw does it have a floor ?

I have been on 3.x for 2 years. For a change I fixed for 5 years because the only way was up. If it goes closer to 1 (which I doubt), then will be happy to break my deal.

No, no lower cap. I'm coming off a 1.59% deal

Just had email from Trading 212 cash ISA rate drops from tomorrow from 4.1% to 3.85%. They didn't waste any time

Love it when a plan comes together..

One of our very successful VPs retired earlier this month. She is a Brit but used to spend time between UK and Spain. It was her goal to retire in Spain. So many years ago, she bought a place in rural Spain. Post the B-ext, she started spending more time in Spain and commute to UK when need. Rented out her London property, which is like an ATM. I am guessing, she will still keep her pensions in the UK

Now announced retirement. Incredible planning window. She must have been planning this for about 10-15 years. Good for her.

Saw this .. first reaction is not happy… need to find out more… so if you die before you retire, does that mean IHT ??

Well done to anyone who bought into rolls royce a few years back ! Not me sadly 😂

Question for those who have followed the thread in detail, is there any pension consolidation advice in this thread or is it mainly investments etc?

I had 3 different pots, deliberately kept separate pre-retirement through a desire not to have all the eggs in one basket. Once I decided to retire I got in touch with a few companies to see what they could offer. Obviously they all wanted the pots consolidating, which I didn’t have a problem with. I used that as a bargaining chip. I also shared the offers with the competing companies.

End result; the final offer was a massive 24% up on the original offer as they reduced their commissions/management fee. And I’ve kept one pot separate so that I can have a play with the market, though avoiding high risk investments.

Though the above isn’t very detailed, anecdotal really, my advice would be to talk to the companies. They all offer similar products, and are more than helpful as they want your money.
