I must say that, although not a great poster, I do visit the Forum most days and find the layout fine.

Keeping the format simple allows the reader to see all the topics without having to jump around as on many other sites.

Possibly the only addition would be a "fancy a game section"

Seasons greetings Mike, and to all at HQ

I voted Yes, but I'm in the just two camp:

'arrange a game' and if threads could be stickied for the bigger meets such as Goswick and Ascot that could be a bonus too.

'ask the expert' - reason I'd separate this is simply that if we're asking these guys to contribute it would make their life easier (and them more willing?) not to have to search 200+ threads (though that might generate a few more members).

other changes;
fix the avatars,
maybe a few more instant smileys (eg as suggested elsewhere 'shakeyfist'),
prevent first time posts on 'sales'.

otherwise it does me.

ps. don't 'jazz' it up - it's nice and discreet at the moment and I can 'hide' it on my desktop at work! :D

to add to my earlier comment asking not to change.

I like this forum because of it's simplicity and it's freindliness. Have seen some quite ridiculous obnoxious offensive arguments on some other forums hence I don't go there and don't post there

Mike,

A Happy New Year to one and all at GM Inc.

One benefit of sub-forums may be to prevent the repetition of questions which posters ask. This is much more understandable these days as there seems to be so much traffic on the forum, and particularly in The Lounge. Some forums get very 'snotty' when posters have not referred back over the past three months-worth of posts before asking their question - I'm glad that ours is not like that, but sub-divisions would enable easier navigation and hence quicker cross-reference.

Having said this, I also agree with the 'if it aint broke don't fix it' brigade's argument. Perhaps the experiment of one or two additional sub-forums for a given period of time would bowl out whether the idea is a keeper or not...?

I believe 6 forums or so is the magic number now as the site has grown very well even since I became a member just over a year ago (christ, that long already??)
When I click on either of the two main forums here I get all sorts from recommendations for local playing clubs across the water to meet-ups which just are not valid for me here in NI and vice versa.
If there was a driver section, irons, putter, things would actually be more intuitive.
Having threads with the intended sole readers name really isn't necessary on a public forum so a "guff" section would be good. Golf is a mundane topic to those non-golfy but there is actually a lot of scope where you could have 30 subforums but I reckon from experience 6 or so would be best to show you what I mean, you could have manufacturer specific (now that would be a little political), balls, tour talk, ask the pros, swing analysis, mens stuff/womens stuff, totally off topic (GUFF) and a few other right through to a polls forum. They arnt all necessary but shoehorning everything into 2 main forums is a bit tight, especially when there are so many willing to moderate.
Oh Mike, sort those avatars, Ive had a couple of belters on other non golf forums recently and cant show them off here!

I think 'ask an expert' is a good idea for a new sub-forum. Other than that leave it as is. Too many sub-forums is unnecessary.

What's a stickie?

Morning all

Many thanks for all the feedback and suggestions.

Taking into account the 2/3rds majority vote in favour of new boards and the comments we will add the following...

arrange a game
ask the experts
post a review (course/gear)

we can always review in a few months to see if these have added to the 'forum experience' and make appropriate adjustments thereafter

On a related topic there will be an announcement soon about what I hope you think will be an exciting forum development...
