Can I make a suggestion that it is reviewed frequently to ensure that the forum doesn't start to "die". It would be a shame for posters to jump ship for the sake of the few.

Crikey, if i didn't come on here i'd have to start doing chores

Mike, you little tinker!

We're all on tenterhooks now, wondering what bit of news you have coming up! Any clues?

Glad we're not going OTT with boards. Just a few more should suffice. I think the "People in power" have been very sensible in the way they have built the forum. It would have been so easy to slap a shedload of boards on the forum. OK in theory, but it doesn't half dilute the forum (any forum)as well as putting many people off. Quite simply, many people just can't be bothered trawling through board after board.

As this forum has developed ie, the membership has grown, it's popularity has grown too. Hence the small change made a while back to include the FS section was well warranted.
I do feel that the time is right to add on a bit more. The "top boys" have obviously thought about it and sensibly decided to add a few extra boards, which I feel will ensure interest is still maintained without putting new and prospective members off. Bit of a ramble people, if it sounds like total bo11ix please don't tell me, I'm sensitive!

On another note....... I know the decision has been made, but one thing I notice a lot, particularly from our newer members who state in their opening posts that they have been "lurking in the shadows" before taking the plunge and posting.
This brought to mind the possibility of having a "members only" section. This may not get more people posting but at least it would away from the prying eyes of floating surfers having a nosy. If the idea smacks of cliqueness then I'll accept it as a bad idea. I have seen it used on other sites though and it does seem popular.

basher, can't think of anything that gets posted that warrants a 'members only'. if anyone wants to keep something off the boards all they need do is pm those concerned.

I dont think its bad thing people lurk, I often have a good read of a forum before posting. See how things develop. I guess others are just doing the same.

There is a forum I am a member of that have a members only section. But I paid to be 'gold member' of the forum for the access and privacy. I dont see a need for this here.

I like the idea of bringing new faces into the light and so if they feel happy in the shadows until a topic excites them or they just feel comfortable joining in then let them be. Who knows, once Mike announces his masterplan, there may be a glut of newbies.

It was a site for Astra Owners. I bought a Brand new Astra sport hatch 2 years ago and joined the forum for free.

I paid a contribution towards the running costs of the forum and in return I got various goodies.

These included things like key rings, stikers etc(plop I know) but the main benefits were the access to the members sections where people where alot more willing to dish details of local, national meets etc, reserve places at official track days and the best one was the membership card that if produced at most Vauxhall Dealers entitled me purchase genuine car parts at trade prices rather tahn full whack.

So thats why I paid.

I can see how that would be a benefit and I guess is a bit like opting to choose to become a member of something like the "how did I do" site that my club uses to publish results and where I can check my handicap.

Homer,

I am also a member of How Did I Do, but thats free and you don't really get many perks, but its a good site.

I seem to recall Madandra coming up with an idea for GM bag tags and the like for being a member of the forum, might be something along these lines that Mike is on about.

Or I might be wrong, as I usual am according to the wife. :D
