A few more sub forums would work quite well IMO.

Agree with TonyN, a couple of "Forum Nazis" ie Moderators would help to weed out the spam posts we tend to get in the FS section. With limited abilities such as being only to moderate certain boards such as the FS section, a line of communication with the head GM teccy to warn of forum trouble makers and wrong doers would work well too.

A good idea, Mike. Personally, I've found that there are sometimes so many new posts that I can't be a**** to read them all. This probably means I miss something that I would have found interesting.

How about just another one. call it "clubhouse" it can be used as a catch all for intro's and game invites/meets.

I must admit when i first started posting, if i missed a day there were less than 100 posts to catch up on, recently it can be 300+. increase in popularity and some tongue in cheek posts.

I also really like the idea of an ask the expert section. It has been very interesting on the odd occasion that company representatives have dropped in on the forum and most have not tried to plug their products but rather have given good honest answers to questions. These have generally been smaller companies so to get the odd representative to answer our queries would be excellent.

Also like the idea of an arrange a game section as have not managed to attend a meet yet and have missed some chances in the mass of other posts.

I think we should have an "Arrange a game" section!

that would be cool.

maybe a swing tips section where questions can be asked and videos of swings posted!
And maybe an equipment section,

all other things golf coud be the main section

I still like the simplicity of this forum. If you want to see how not to do it, look at the complexity of golfwrx. Way too many topics.

Happy new year MikeH and all the best to you, your family and all at the towers.

IMO the forum is becoming to popular to stick with what we have. Seriously, I didnt log on for 3 days and I had something like 19 new topics with almost 350 posts to get through.
Sub sections would have been great.

Not too many though. Maybe something like

*The lounge(for general golfing chat)

*Instruction(Post here to ask for advice, or browse tips left by others)

*Arrange a game (Use this space to challenge fellow GMer's to a game)

*For sale section(A place where forum members can swap, sell or buy private items. No spamming or chancing :D )

*The Spike Bar,formerly known as Out of bounds (A place for one and all to discuss anything they fancy)

*Equipment Guide ( Along with links from GM's regular tests a place to seek out other forum members advice a views)

Just a few examples of how the forum could go. Doesn't have to be overly complecated with a couple more sub sections.

I would also add that it wouldnt do any harm to have a couple of moderators knocking around to keep things clean and in the right place.

I'm with this option.

Though, more categories doesn't mean less posts for us to read! It just means that it might be easier to keep things on the front page for longer.

More sticky topics would be good, perhaps, CF, GPS, balls.

Like the idea of a ask the pro type section, but I would imagine that this could be very popular!

I looked at Golfmagic (I think) the other week over Christmas and it had far too many categories, and I just couldn't be bothered to work it out.

The TG one is just as confusing.

I like the current 'flow' of conversation on the GM forum, and having fewer catergories does mean that things do flow quite quickly on here. Which I like. I know it's not a 'chat room', but it is nice to have 'virtual conversations' on here, it makes it very friendly.

Happy New Year to all at GM Towers.

Have to go with Homer - like it as it is and wouldn't want too much fragmentation, but a bit more rationalisiation might help.
(which this post probably doesn't!)
cheers

I'd happily have an "arrange a game" section but otherwise I'm in the "like it as it is" crowd.

(Some of the previous answers might make more sense if I had the faintest idea what a "sticky" is? And while I'm at it, how about a glossary? Been reading on here for over a year and still don't know what lol or rofl mean?)

I'm happy as it is but if we are going to have more sub forums can we have a filter so that we can look at new posts but only in the filtered forum(s) of choice

I don't think it needs changing really? Its good enough as it is, im not a big forum visitor (This is the only one I write on) and this is very simple and easy to use. I think if you added more sections it would complicate the site and could mean people don't read certain posts as they might not visit each section? Like people have said above it works well at the moment and it isn't broken so maybe leave it as it is?
