How can internet websites such as 118 golf and online golf justify their p&p charges to Northern Ireland. I was looking at the p3 practice golf balls on 118 and they cost £7.95 with free postage to mainland UK. To post to NI £9.95 Now I know we are a little slow over here but to the best of my knowledge we are included in the same Royal Mail charges as in England, so how can these companies charge such excessive postal rates.
Does anybody have any answers?
PS Mike I was going to email this to you as part of the readers letters but thought I would share it with the other forum readers but I would be grateful if you would consider it for a future magazine copy to make others aware of this, in my opinion, unfair pricing policy.

DO NOT USE 118

I ordered two pairs of FJ 2oth anniversary shoes on July 13th and the website said "in stock". They turned up on Monday, three weeks later. They weren't in stock and had to be ordered from FJ.

They have poor customer service, prices aren't always that competitive, have been known to ship completely different items to those rodered and basically will take your money and then much you around. I wasn't even aware of the extra cost to Northern Ireland which I agree seems a scam

Very much the poorest online golf company I've used.

Re: Internet websites p&p to Northern Ireland

I agree, I have cancelled fairly large IT orders with some companies across the water before as their charges were extortionate. Ive proven time and time again that the actual cost is no different and that companies all jump onto the band wagon about extra costs because some other company does it, its ok for them to follow.

You will find that some companys use services outside the royal mail. this is why the cost is higher.

Sometimes in the past i have came across companys that will let me use my own postage setvice.. might be worth a shout see this.

found this on another site.

"If anyone is looking for cheap postage:

If selling, in paypal you can click on the CREATE POSTAGE LABEL to the right of the transaction. Select 48hr Parcelforce and specify either a dropoff (at the docks in belfast, plus others) or collection from your house/work.

Cost is £11 and covers up to 30kgs. You can send a set of large wheels this way for £44 (repeat process 4 times, multiple packages in one order are not allowed).

For smaller wheels strap into pairs and send for £22.

If youre buying and paying via paypal, ask the seller to do this for you and it should save you money.

If the transaction isnt being done via paypal there is another trick. Get a mate to send you £1 via paypal and set his address to the address you want to post to. Then in paypal create a postage label.

I find dropping off very handy, I print the labels and package everything up and drop them off at the parcelforce depot in duncrue.

Hope this helps."

I have found that aswell, I did complain about the extra postage and some companies did agree not to charge the postage. Alot of compaines don't use RM, they use TNT or countrywide and the likes so thats why the charge is there.
It's hard not to buy from ur local Pro whenever these charge's are applyed.

Have to agree that p&p charges to N. Ireland are a total rip-off.

I had a bad experience with Greg Nicholson Golf who debited my card a higher amount to that shown on the order placed online. They explained it with extorionate p&p charges to N. Ireland even though the final online cost displayed should always include total charges.....I'd inputed my address and post code after all!!

I've never encountered this with any other online supplier.....all charges are always up front.

Be warned, stay away from these guys.

Re: Internet websites p&p to Northern Ireland

Have never bought from them but most golf websites seem to charge excessive p&p making their 'bargains' dearer than local golf stores.

Slightly off topic. But a canny consumer nether the less!

We used to change the selling price and postage costs to see which got the bigger bite. Surprisingly (well to smart folks!), the cheaper product and higher postage costs, resulting in a slightly higher total price, came out on top!

Consumers appeared to prefer the cheaper product cost, regardless of the higher carriage cost. Far be it to suggest that the great British public are stupid, but wouldn't you go for the cheapest total cost, not the cheapest product cost!?

Regarding NI. I've always felt a little sorry for you guys regarding the carriage thing.

118 eh? You've got to love 'em.....NOT :)

Long and short is they don't want the business, otherwise they'd try a bit harder.

Ever noticed some websites selling stuff 2x, 3x the price you find after a quick google?

Just chancers i.m.o.

I have scrubbed 118 from my list of online shopping possibilities. This sort of thing just confirms my decision.

If I can buy over the counter I will in future, but with not driving and having only AG or the local pro its not great. I don't mind ordering from my Pro but his prices are high even when most the kit has to be ordered in.

I think there are some good internet sites out there its a question of finding them. This is where a place like this and horror stories like Greg Nicholson and 118 help make an informed choice

I agree its a disgrace for british companies to charge more to send goods to NI which is part of the UK.

To be slightly controversial it goes to show that "Mainland Companies" dont accept NI as part of the UK.

Just a thought - do NI companies who send stuff over here charge higher postage costs than sending within NI?
Be interesting to know....
