Appreciate specialist golf insurance probably has been covered on here, but has anyone on here ever had to make a claim / able to give some genuine feedback?
I'm torn between the big 3.
Although my contents covers sports equipment concealed in my car. I'm not convinced! Concents also doesn't cover me for personal liability.
Any advice would be great cheers

I haven't had specific golf insurance, so I'm not well placed to comment.

However, I have claimed stuff on my house insurance recently, and it did make me think about golf insurance.

My gripe with insurance is that when (if) they pay out, they don't tend to send you a cheque. They like to give you a voucher for a specific shop (they must get a kick back). So have a computer stolen, they give you a voucher for PC World, etc.

So, have a 1964 Omega watch stolen, and they are mumbling about trying to give me a voucher for Samuels jewelers. That's not really going to work.

So if my golf clubs are stolen, would I get a voucher for AG? Most of my clubs are not sold by AG, as they are either custom made for me by the manufacturer, or are a bit more obscure, or are obsolete models that I would want to get again.

So in regards to the op, I would go with the company which would give me cash, not a voucher.

hi i work in insurance claims, all insurers will try and give vouchers or replace items for you if they can. so if you have a std set of clubs that can be easily replaced then yes they can and will
however, if you have had clubs made for you that cannot be brought off the shelf at american, foremost, direct golf etc etc, then they cannot insist on vouchers and you should dig your heels in and insist on cash.

be wary of specific golf insurance if the main reason you want it is for theft, you would be better off extending your house contents cover to include items away from home.

Can't comment on theft but know a couple of guys who've claimed on the "Hole in one" clause with no problem..... hic !

I have insurance and for me it's the peace of mind when my drive at the first goes sailing down the adjoining (full of expensive property) road etc. Plus, I keep my clubs in a locker and my house insurance won't cover contents kept away from the house for >30 days in a year.

more detail please. I've got golf insurance, it's not due for renewal though.
I have heard that with some if you make a claim they promptly ask who your contents cover is with. what's the game?

Could that possibly be to check that you're not claiming twice?

I'm more cynical - I think they could be claiming against it.

How?

You're the policy holder, no one can claim on your policy but you.

One insurance company that you hold a policy with, claiming from another that you hold a policy with would be illegal, wouldn't it?

Happy to be corrected.....

I would think that if the clubs are insured on your house hold policy there will be small print in the golf specific one which says they don't have to pay out.

Be happy!

They will if possible share the claim, policy cover can overlap.

Home Insurance (Articles covered outwith the home - Personal Possessions)/ Travel Insurance.

In the event of theft on holiday which policy covers the claim?

Yes, as the minute you claim from the second you haven't suffered a loss (because the first is paying out).

I think the double insurance rule is quite common. As others have said, it's so they can pass the buck and avoid paying out!

Just got off the phone from my contents insurer and it transpires I'm only covered out of the house up to 20% of sum insured (£1k) so will be getting some. Golf plan £50 per year seems a no brainer. Found a couple of reviews re car theft and claim was paid in full in <48 hours

yup £40 quid a year for piece of mind so that the guy I just blinded with a ball that swears up and down that I didn't shout 'fore' and is suing me ass off, is not going to be the cause of me losing my house because of £4K+ plus solicitor fees etc.
I don't really have it because of stolen clubs etc. purely for personal injury claims.

as I said I'm cynical. I think insurance companies will do anything to avoid paying out, then pay the minimum they can get away with.

my son lost all his luggage coming back from SA. they were refusing to pay out because he didn't have receipts for <u>every</u> item in his bag. pretty sure he either got sod all or a pittance.

have you got receipts for your shirts and socks?

Taken photos of me with all my gear as back up - got bored so some of them are catalogue poses where I'm pondering or pointing into the distance. Made sure there are two empty z star boxes in every background! Just need to borrow a mates power caddy now!

if 2 insurers cover the same item (ie golf and household insurers -as long as cover extended) then 1 would claim a contribution from the other - very common in travel insurance

golf insurers tend to be very restrictive on cover for theft so read small print

not sure about the legal side of things, doubt someone would be successful in suing if you accidentally hit them- they need to prove negligence. but as you say nothing to stop them trying

on a personal note my household contents, by extending cover to include personal possessions, provides wider theft cover than golf insurers do (car & abroad are my main concerns!)

and finally if you are unlucky and need to claim - before calling them to claim....read the small print so you can tell them what they need to hear !!!
