Hello all,

Bit of a random question but wanted your views! Earlier in the week whilst trying to remove a particularly stubborn putter grip I sliced off the tip of my toe with a Stanley knife (don't ask..) anyway luckily the injury is not to significant-and really is only a small ish cut and I have managed to get a smaller dressing on today.

It is my clubs anniversary stableford tomorrow and I am very keen to play, but concerned that due to discomfort or if the dressing doesn't hold up I might not last the round.

What is the view in this both in terms of etiquette and handicap purposes if I have to walk off with a pre-existing injury (clearly I have already discussed with my PPs and they understand the situation). Should I not be starting if I feel I may not be able to complete and would I get a 0.1 if NR due to injury?

Thanks,

Chris

Yes I got a .1 when I broke my leg in a rabbit hole .
wasnt very happy.
it was a long time ago may be different now.

The handicap committee have discretion, and the guidance is to favour the player in any marginal decision.

The crux of the consideration is whether the player could have managed to buffer if the injury hadn't required them to discontinue.

Yeah, I had a .1 back when I split my head open on a tree branch last year. I was OK to continue but my PP's looked like they were going to loose their breakfast with all the blood running down my face.

The one that did p*ss me off was when I got a .1 as I had to W\D from a comp because it was taking so long. 3h for front 9. I wouldn't have had time to finish my round.

RE Handicap

In these days of computer input and recording of scores there is no way of knowing what a NR was for. The committee responsible is supposed to void any card that shows insufficient holes played for handicap purposes but I have known this happen. There is no set number of holes anyway.

I once played just 3 holes and quit because the course was unplayable do to flooding but still went up 0.1.

There is a quite simple way around it

Write on the card - if someone retires injured then write on the card and the person closing the Comp can then make the judgment

I wrote on a card that i nr'd due to a back injury in the last comp of the season and .1 was added. I spoke to Golf England as my club were being difficult over the matter and the .1 had increased my handicap for the whole winter, Golf England said that it shouldn't be added for injury related nr's and it was finally altered back
