Have been having ongoing problems with my calf for a month or so, constantly reaggravating it after some rest. It seemed much worse after yesterdays game. Just back from getting it checked out, turns out I've torn the calf and its likely to need minimum 2-3 weeks rest and that includes no golf :( I suppose at least its happened when the weathers bad not in summer but gonna be climbing the walls soon

Bad news indeed. Just to lower your morale, when I tore my calf (left) it was more 4-5 weeks. But I was quite unfit and that hindered recovery. Hope you heal well.

Tore mine at Woodhall last year.

Left mine as I thought it was nothing, and after a week my ankle and foot were totally black and blue.

Depends on the severity of the tear as to how long.

Hope you recover quickly.

The quacks probably told you this already, but RICE

Rest - obviously rest as much as you can
Ice - Ice it as often as you can, this will really help speed up the recovery time
Compression - Get an elasticated bandage thing on it throughout the day
Elevation - Keep your foot above your knee as much as possible when sitting, ie a footstoll with added cushions.

All the best!

PS. i am not a doc or a physio, just experienced in up legs! LOL

Unlucky mate, I know its been giving you grief but in the time you have been struggling with it you have won EVERYTHING you have entered.

I know your not one to show off but I do think you should tell the pretty people about your pro-am win yesterday!!!

Well done buddy.

I know your not going to enjoy the rest but at least you have some cricket this weekend to keep your mind busy.

I will beat Dave up at AVGC again on Saturday for ya..

Have you seen a Vet:whistle:

it will heal within 5 weeks if given the proper rest, thats only 1st week March, at least it wasn't mid season

Sorry to hear that chap. It is painful. I have done this on a squash court and it felt like I had been stung by a bee in the back of the calf. I had to be carried off court.

Anyway, icing it is important and so is not taxing it too much. However, with this injury, it is important not to rest it too much and normal walking should be returned too as quickly as possible. The reason for this is that if totally rested, it heals in a slightly contracted position and when stretched properly again, can become an area of weakness and re-occur.

Hope this helps and also, I have a PDF on the injury and rehab. PM me your email address if you would like me to send it on to you.

And get well soon.

Snelly.

I did it playing a tennis match on about the third point. Probably hadn't warmed up properly. It was a doubles match so didn't want to let my partner down so carried on playing. Just went for outright winners, and for a while the opposition did seem to think to try and make me run. After winning the first set they they wised up and had to retire at one set all. Took about 4 weeks to recover, so couldn't have done too much damage hopping about.;)

Thats what I thought it was at Woodhall last year, as thats what I was trying to get away from

Thanks for all the well wishes.

The physio I saw this morning was very keen on making sure I walk small amounts regularly even now and that over the next week to increase the walking very gradually as well as some very minor stretching, alongside the obvious icing and resting. Will sends you a pm.

The longer the game went yesterday the more it felt I was on one leg, that said Im pretty left sided anyway so backswing was ok, just struggled with declining power on the the way through, not convinced im fully cut out for S&T tho lol

Get well soon Fundy.

Instead of not playing entirely, you could try Stack & Tilt - apparently we swing on one leg any way! ;)

LIke you said at the outset nothing to worry about with heavy frosts and minus temperatures in the wind chill. A few weeks off and come back fit and ready. My money is on a cut first comp back
