I have never had the best of experiences with pro shops, never any deals, high prices etc.

That is why I was surprised to receive an email from mine this morning showing some initiative. Basically they received the new TM range in this week so they sent out an email with full details of the range and with details of the prices charged by Direct Golf and other online and chain retailers. They then set their prices at least £5.00 lower than those. So now the whole membership knows that the pro shop is not more expensive, that those who buy online as a matter of course should check the pro shop deals and I hope that this gets them some well deserved custom.

Certainly showing a willingness to compete with the bulk retailers now puts my pro shop firmly on my list of places to shop.

It's funny you mention this. I have always been under the impression that the pro shop at my local GC is more expensive. You know what? I've never actually seen their prices, let alone compared them with others.

Glad to see yours doing a little to drum up more business.

Not usually that hard at the beginning of a model cycle, as most places have pretty set prices. The big test is when the reductions start hitting. I know for sure as my pro shop couldn't come close to prices of the older TM gear, he even phoned the distribution people to find out if he was wrong on the purchase price as was told he wasn't, even they had no idea how DG/AG etc were managing to reduce their old R11s and RBZ stock by that much.

Our place is pretty good. We have a monthly club newsletter with a pro-shop section where the advertise the latest deals. they also review prices vs the big name chains.

The sticker prices tend to be higher but they will price match AG, OG, DG etc.

Great stuff and I agree with what you have said about pro shops... sounds like the Pro is fighting back.

I didnt know that Westy, often use the range there and have a little mooch around the shop. Not that I am on the lookout for anything of course :D

My pro runs a good offer....

Sign up for three lessons over the winter and if you don't reduce your handicap come the summer you get your money back as vouchers to spend in his shop. I did it last year and signed up again this...

Our pro shop is stocked with 80% clothing and no other clubs than Ping as he's an authorised fitter centre.

I would use him a lot more if there was a greater range of brands and clubs in there.

My pro carries very little stock but as part of the Foremost group he is becoming better at getting test clubs in and is quite competitive at price matching. I always try and give him first option

That's the problem individual Pro Shops have. When TM are about to introduce a new model, they offer the big chains (or the big chains offer) loads of the 'old' model at such good prices that they can sell them for less than Pro Shops pay TM for them!

It's not 'dumping' because it's higher than cost, but the effect is that Pro Shops are left with stock they have to sell at a loss.

The R1 could well help that because the stocking levels should be reduced.

that's not what the distributor said to my pro. He specifically asked if they were getting different cheaper deals and the reply was no, there was no reduction on at the moment.
