After the “Another Go Kart thread” a while back I thought I would give you more info on lead acid batteries.

I test and use various types of batteries all the time. I use car batteries hooked up to a charger to life test stair lifts to destruction. My work uses, by the thousands, all different type of lead acid batteries for various different applications, including stair lifts and hollow tine machines. These batteries are designed to have a fairly high discharge, like a golf trolley, before recharging again. Car batteries are a little different in that they are designed more for a constant charge but the concept is the same.

Anyway, my point…..I’ve been testing three batteries for voltage only, they have not been on charge for a good few weeks. One was at 12.1 volts 7 days ago and it’s still at 12.1 volts. I have two car batteries, not been used in weeks, and they tested at 13.2 and 13.3 volts. Now they’re at 13.2 and 13.2.

Trust me guys………if you have a 36 hole lead acid battery and it cant do 18 holes after the first 18 the following day then something is wrong with the battery. If anyone has a battery that is loosing voltage overnight then it’s faulty....or past it's best.

Oh, batteries do fail, but I’ve only had two in the last few years.

The above was the whole essence of my earlier "Another Go-Kart Thread" post!

Thanks for putting up the info Tommo
