Inequality Between UK Nations

We had an issue last year, We have 2 kids, 10 year age gap between them and we have never taken either of them out of school for holidays before last year.
However their schools had different holidays and we decided as the lad was doing his GCSE's he could not afford to miss so youngest who was in year 1 at the time had to miss 4 days.
Due to a clerical error at the school and we suspect the teacher prefilled our daugthers register for the week she was marked absent for 5 days even though one of the days she was in.
Because of this we received a fine ( after some research we discovered out local authority only fine for 5 full days)

After having to go and see the headteacher to explain this they were adamant that she had missed 5 days and there was nothing they could do!!
Until we threatened to go higher up to the governors they went to see her teacher who agreed to look through her books and discovered some work she had done on the day she was apparently absent!

luckily we had the fine rescinded.

I do not agree with taking kids out of school but do understand that there are extenuating circumstances sometimes.

No idea, it's not something I've asked. Iirc its generally the last Friday before a break I'm not talking about taking full weeks off here just the odd day here and there.

Well that's slightly different as missing a day here and there where they mostly play games is a different kettle of fish to 2 weeks off in the middle of term. Plus the fact that your ex missus is a teacher will probably mean that in general, education is very highly valued. Still not sure how she can get out of teaching even if it is for one day as you need special permission to do that.

Not necessarily all Fridays, Mondays can be quite popular. Plus if the governors found out that teachers were going on holiday on INSET days they'd do their nut and the teacher would probably be in very big trouble.

It was said slightly tongue in cheek although at my daughters school they are pretty much always on a Friday so the potential for a sneaky getaway is there. Wouldn't happen though, would it ?

But its OK for teachers to go on strike over some little thing every five minutes, because that doesn't harm the childs education one bit, and lets not dare suggest they do their 'teacher training' (inset) days during school holidays!

How often do teachers actually go on strike? Once every 2-3 years maybe ?

Teaching training has to be done in term time as per their contracts as they aren’t employed when schools are closed . They have to be open a set number of days a year for education which they try and make that most people will be in.. they put their training at places which suit all

My wife’s training this year has been 2 hours after work over 6 days
