It should be noted, i think of it to be mandatory for indoor centres to close for a couple of hours as there are better things to do during the dead time

AN interesting pipe dream. You look at how busy the better ranges seem to be at many parts of the day then it would hint at there being a possibility of this having legs. However even these have down times and so you'd need to think about closing part of the day (restocking fridges, kitchens can be done) and expanding beyond the initial golf concept. However I don't see the tie up between something like a climbing wall and the core business. I would prefer to see a pro giving lessons, perhaps an ideal starting point for an ambitious newly qualified wanting to build a teaching reputation but also agree that you can't have too many staff, especially doing nothing in slack periods..

A well stocked bar, selling decent food and with Sky would perhaps keep some in the place longer as would a good shop although the outlay on top of the centre would be prohibitive.

My solution would be to find a range to take over and then build, adapt a specific enclosed area to set up simulators that could still offer the chance for golfers to come along and take on courses, but could also be hired out for those wanting to use the monitor in practice (say £10 per half hour plus balls) and also be used by a teaching pro. The additional income from the range could then be used to expand and develop this going forward

Really all the tweaks are fine and good, but it comes down to requiring a dense population in a wealthy area, if you do not have that then you have zero chance

What I think would work would be a short game facility,artificial greens and an area big enough for chipping.It would be a great place for golfers to sharpen up on their short game and would be indoors so could be used in the winter months,add a coffee machine perfect

With the help of lottery funding my club Bedale is in the process of opening a swing studio which is along the lines mentioned, the plan is for the pro to use it for lessons in wet weather and during the winter a 4 ball could use it for 25quid... The current state is that it is all fitted out and the committee is just deciding what courses to purchase (anybody any experience and can recommend any??) should be open soon we are planning to use it midweek when the course is closed.. but I have some lessons booked so I be in sooner than that...

Ive played a few of these and by far Pebble Beach is the best sim course.

Wyboston and Lakeside Lodge both has indoor sims. My PGA pro is at Lakeside Lodge, and is great for winter teaching when you are not bothered by ball flight and just want to see numbers and angles

I think the teaching pro is a must, and if you could get one maybe a pro shop added on to do fittings. As for buying a range interestingly there is one in Chester quite close by for sale, for just a cool £500,000. I also think food, drink and Sky Sports is a must, making it more into a bar/evening venue as well as a golf centre, so you could have people coming for various reasons.

Guy that owns foyle golf center owned one of these machines had all the golf courses and had it setup in a spare room in his driving range. Think he gave it a year and half if I remember right before pulling the pin and wasn't costing him anything as he owned the building but wasn't making anything.

Then in March we had someone else try it and he was closed by August. Said it was a sore lesson in terms of outlay.

He has the machine still there and I know he'd be willing to listen to offers to get it sold. Same idea play any course and give you all the stats in regards to were you hit the club ball speed ETc etc


edit if you want his number for more details and a price etc I could get you his number..I Am 99% sure he would sell it.. Comes with everything you need to set it up in terms of screen and the bay etc.

Just out of curiosity do you know what sim it is? I am nowhere near even attempting the golf centre yet but wouldn't mind one in the garage!

Well, i know many venues that have failed due to trying to be golf golf golf and it oftendoes not cut it

You have to make the space as profitable as you can and a majority of these places are dead during the day with big overheads.

I have had more than a few discussions with venue owners in my life and know what they try, whats hurting them and helping them etc.. I have easily spoken to 100 owners so have a pretty good understanding of this as a concept

Just because it wasn't hard enough my club have just announced a member is paying for a indoor sim in a little cabin to be put up, for the members to use free of charge haha, that's a cut in the potential customers!

Tbh I have no idea what brand it is. I know he spent 1000s on it..

I was on it once if you gave me a list of sim's or pics I could let you know what it is. As for price etc you would need to speak to him.
