If your golf course was TOUR STANDARD would you play better?

Once I'd got used to the speed of the greens I think I'd be a couple of shots better off. Times I have played at "better" courses in the last year I've at least shot close to my handicap so I don't think 2 shots would be unreasonable.

ps - as long as I can get my irons working............!

How about tee boxes where you can't seem to find a suitable place where the ball isn't either 2 inches above or below your feet... is there someone who also prefers those? :(

I always look for a "high spot" on the tee to tee up on. I always seem to clout the ball better when it's coming off of a "Larry launch pad".
A lot of the tees at Crowborough were like this, and I would deliberately seek them out.

I play my course before and after tour events and I can honestly say that it makes no significant difference to my game.
If we had to play to the sunday pin positions however, my scores would be very different indeed.

We have a couple of pro-tour events all be it minor pro-tour at our place every year.

The course is always kept in the best of condition so no I dont think it would make a difference.

There is no simple answer to this. Some benefits, some losses.

I played Wentworth in the BMW pro-am last year, so the course was set up pretty similar to the next four days. The greens were much criticised by the pros, but seemed pretty good and fast to me. If you hit a shot into the green, it would stop. Putts on the green were quick but roled true.

However, if you were on the wrong side of the green ...

I hit my tee shot at the 14th (uphill par 3) into the bunker, pin high. I hit a nce shot out, which bit then released. My playing partner, a 2 handicap, said nice shot. The ball rolled down towards the flag, past the flag, then off the front and 15 yards down the hill.

The 2 had a chip from pin high on the other side. He played it very delicately, and his ball rolled gently towards the flag, then off the front and ended up beside mine.

I have no idea how anyone would have stopped the ball near the flag other than by hitting it (gently).

Fairways were in excellent condition, nice lies to play from, and all the bunkers were raked and well filled.
