I had my first proper bash today and would have posted a top score !!!!! if not for the dreaded putter , i am currently using a dfx 2 ball or odyssey divine line and neither of them bloody work , i have had putting probs with these before and i am thinking of moving over to the clasic style , i live 200 yards from greg nicholson golf shop and they have got nice MDGOLF putter in the classic style with a changeable face for faster and slower greens , its got a good rep and greg says its just like a scotty cameron for £50.00 he even says he doesnt undertand how they make such quality and cheap aswell , i used my MD wedge for the first time today and although not that succsesful it felt good and im think of getting a 56 %... i was surprised by the amount of spin which was impressive and next time now how to use more wisely .

any thoughts on md putters please ?

Hi,
Whats the problem with the putting pulling, pushing or hitting it good but seem to be lined up wrong, pace? A new putter wont fix a swing fault have you tried reading Putting out of your mind by Dr Bob, I would recomend a daly golf putter but only if you can get custom fitted for it. I got the MD golf wedges and the do create a huge amount of spin but seem a bit short on a full shot because of that can't wait to use them on hard summer greens.

You can't go wrong with the TM Spider. I love mine, and can only ever see myself changing to the baby one in the summer.

I played in the wed roll up today, missed two puts from 1-2ft, one for birdie, one for par. Ended up 2 points short of winning!!! I have used a couple of styles of putter and have come to the realisation that actually its the nugget who is holding it!! :D

I don't mean to gloat in your misery but my putter was hot today, it is absolutely superb and I would definitely recommend a Bettinardi black carbon series- it has transformed my game on the greens.

Hippy,

Honestly is it the putter or the putee?

Get a lesson on putting first then make your decision, mine is currently awful but I know it's me not the club.

Are they both Mallets? If so I've got a couple if blade style putters you can try, PM me for and we'll sort a game.

Hi Happy

I would really stick with your putter as my putter is a £5.99 Donnay and today it paid for itself. This will be my one boast this year- I had four twos with it today!! It really is a mental challenge with putting. I think a quick lesson would probably benefit you as it sounds like you have a really nice putter. Just hang in there

I think it would be better for your bank balance and peace of mind to get a putting lesson first and get rid of any technical issues. Once you have a more reliable and repeatable stroke the world of putters awaits. Personally I vote for the itsy spider but then I have had a fair few putters over the years so maybe not the best bloke to be giving advice

I have a £9.99 putter and my putts per 18 holes are anywhere between 36 and 40 which I don't think is too bad (also considering I putt from off the greens as well - included in these figures).

Surely nearly all putters 'work'.

Its the indian not the arrow that kills you.

If your pulling and pushing putts a new putter is not going to be any different, you may get an initial confidence boost but it wont last long.If you keep telling yourself you cant use these putters you never will.
Bit more of a positive mental attitude is required and as homer says putting lessons would be a wiser way to spend the money.

If im missing putts i never look to my putter for answers,i look at my stroke,as i said in previous threads I may change to cack handed for a while to get a better stroke.

Ive had my putter for 15 years

Lot of advice in there hippygilmore. To me ;) Putting is the most important shot you will make, in some rounds you will take almost as many putts with this one club as you will take with the rest in the entire round. There is a huge amount of advice/recomendations and tips about all other clubs, along with no end of encouragement for change to improve, yet not where the most important club is concerned. How can the most important of clubs carry so much LESS merit as regards advice? More often than not the comments are 'The puttee not the putter' I disagree, if you dont feel absolutely confident with what you are holding in your hand, you can never expect the best possible results. If you want complete refinement of your putting, you also need the most refined and suitable putter for YOU. One of the reasons many golfers have an average or poor putting performance, is not just down to their style or training/practice, it is sometimes down to the club they are holding, that may simply be too long/too heavy/too light/shaft at wrong angle etc to suit their best potential.

I can get round a race track very quick on a bog standard road bike, but give me the same bike altered to my spec, to fit me and my style the best, and I will go a hell of a lot quicker. Putting is mainly the 'puttee', but the best you can be also includes the best 'putter'for YOU! I say change as often as you like, try different things, so long as you dont get any worse keep trying till you find one that fits you like a glove, it took me about 20 to find the one I have now, could I putt as well with any of them as I can with this one? No! Was my putting good beforehand? Yes!

Dunno.

I struggle with Odyssey putters for reasons best not described on here. Although I have ONE, it rarely gets the nod, except on super-fast slick summer greens. I'm sure this isn't because all Odysseys are like this, just my model....something to do with the insert.

Go and try a few and see how you feel.....
If you are missing close-range putts, try to choose one that feels right for your style.....and practice like mad.

I agree up to a point with HNJ but there comes a point where even a C/F putter is not going to be any use if the stroke is erratic or the basics are compromised. If you focus on getting your eyes over the ball, shoulders correctly aligned and a good smooth stroke it makes the job so much easier.

I had a two ball dfx. Fantastic putter, you can't go wrong. If you have this putter and can't putt, you can't putt, full stop. The dfx insert is fine.

I changed to a Scotty for reasons more to do with aesthetics, rather than holing out.

Get a lesson, or help from a low h/cap friend. A new putter probably won't help.

hi,

i seem to take the putter back on the inside causing the face to close at impact, hence pulling the ball then i think im over compesating and keeping the face open leeding to a push , i have read the book and im quite sure i have got a decent technique although it wont do any harm to have it looked at i suppose .. i have read that a classic style putter is ideal for my kind of swing , something to do with how it is weighted i think ..

regards

mark ...

Aaaaargh - we're back to death by analysis again! My 2p - get a pro to look at it for half an hour, and I'm betting you will never look back. Best £15(ish) you could spend. :)
