I played on Sunday in the 1st medal competition of the year and shot a 79 (11) = 68. I went to check where I finished and what the handicap cut was, as I was there for the monthly mid week medal, and it said that I had shot 81 (11) = 70.

The secretary found my card and the marker had totalled up the two 9's to the same score as me (39 + 40 = 79) but had put 2 scores wrong on the back 9, and the back 9 which should have been a 40, and was recorded as 40, actually totalled 42. I didn't check each score before signing and submitting the card as I knew that the total agreed with my record on the card I was marking so I assumed (wrongly) that all was ok

My fault I know, but I was angry when I started todays competition and shot a nett 73 so will now be playing off 12 not 11 as I would have for my 4BBB winter league semi finals!

The guy in question , a builder, fitted my new bathroom and en suite recently - I am just going to find his invoice and check the maths!

Sorry to hear that, pal. The only comforter I can offer is that we've all done it.

Plus, you're off 12 now for a matchplay game - that's got to be a bonus, hasn't it?

Does it really matter? If your club wants you to play off 12 because you can't add then fair enough.. that's the way the h/cap system works....... more chance of winning next time.... GO MATHS!!!!:p:p

Just do that every time you play until you card a really decent score then check that one properly and pick up the trophy!!!

Not to labour the point but you really should know. Whatever the format you're playing, if you've got a good round going, check the gross scores.

I know, but I knew that I shot 39 on the front 9 and 40 on the back and my marker confirmed that. The only thing I did wrong was not to actually double check each individual score. He filled the card in for 79 and that was right and the nett score was correct too

I do accept that it was my responsibility

Ok now I'm going to try and cheer you up. If it was done correctly at most you would have gone down 0.2, but as it is it's only 0.1 back. Better to learn in such a low key comp than a board comp, and on the plus side it's an extra shot for your pairs comp ;)

Thanks Baz I dont feel so suicidal now - I will only take half the bottle of tablets!!!

I was so annoyed with myself that i let it ruin yesterdays round and thats bad - I was 9 over after 9 holes but bucked up in the second 9 to, almost, stay in the buffer. I had a bad day all round as I arrived at the course after having a row with some tw*t from the Customs and Excise and I let both matters get to me which I wouldn't normally do
