I'm watching it again for the umpteenth time, The Dam Busters is brilliant

Peter Jackson of King Kong, LOTR and the Hobbit is/was thinking about making a remake of the Dambusters. I would love to see that as the original is a classic and a new version with all the CGI would be pretty damn good.

No mate some things you cannot improve upon.

I dont believe so, the actual film should stay true but the special effects in the original are basic (it was made 60 years ago).

For example, check out the explosion graphics around 2.50 , add in colour film, respectable actors and it could be a pretty good watch. My reservation would be that the movie industry dont really tend to care about history now, just dollars so it could turn into a star wars fest.

A bit more than just thinking, they were actively working on it. The script was being written by Stephen Fry. I'd love to see a remake however I know that it would be ruined by over CGI'ing the visuals. They were also going to rename Gibson's dog as Digger due to the obvious concerns over racism for the original name.

IMHO too many modern films are spoiled by the use of CGI, including The Hobbit.

we tend to whistle the dambusters tune when someone hits a wet yin at our 3rd hole which has a 230 yrd carry across a pond .

only during a fun game of course

When playing on our Annual tour last year at St Mellion, one guy hit one over a lake that hit the water and skipped around four times and landed on the far bank. A couple of guys started humming the Dam Busters tune. I quietly reminded them that he was German. Dont think he would have known it though :)

Another firm favourite of mine...

I believe a remake will happen as I have heard some full sized 'models' of the Lancaster have already been constructed... When the original film was shown in the US the dogs name was overdubbed as Trigger... One thing they'll be able to get right in any remake is the shape of the bomb... Was in reality a cylinder but this information was still subject to the 'official secrets act' in 1954 and bomb was depicted as being spherical...

The original of many films, will always remain the best version, but a lot of war films made yester year, would benefit from a CGI makeover, as long as the original storyline and plot remained the same, but as is the case the story writers feel the need to alter the story to make it more appealing to the modern public.

War film examples, being Pearl Harbour and U-571 (U-571 is the basterdized plot where the US recover the enigma machine from Uthe German U-Boat, where in reality it was British sailors from HMS Bulldog)

One war film I really hope they do not mess with is, Kelly's Heroes, that one is perfect as it is...

"Oddball: Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Moriarty: Crap! "
