At the risk of sending you all to sleep, I discovered something rather odd today.
I have a 3 hybrid with a prolaunch blue hybrid (specific) shaft. I like the club and most of the shots, but I have struggled to get it square enough on a few occasions.

I only have two graphite woods, driver (aldila nvs 55-r) and 3 wood (fuji' mas.2 55.5 R). Both are as good as gold, no qualms at all!! Both these are listed as weighing approx 55g.

The prolaunch blue is 79g !!!! this is a much heavier shaft!
Interestingly the aldila hybrid shafts are near 80g too!

so, why so heavy?? is this normal? the prolaunch hybrid blue is for medium swing speed - R - but is there any reason why the club-head could struggle to get square?
Anyone know what the likely result of using a shaft too stiff? I thought it was exactly this....not getting it square? I suspect the prolaunch blue might be stiffer than regular aldila/fujikura specifications.....

Should I bid for a CLK Hi-fli 3H with regular exsar??

I think it's because a hybrid is supposed to behave more like an iron than a wood hence a stiffer flex and heavier feel than a wood. Should result in tighter shot dispersion. I have a Bridgestone JSS hybrid 21 deg and it too has an 80g shaft, I usually have 65g in driver/3 wood shafts.

Thanks for this.....It's clearly the ordinary way of things....

I must say, the shaft does feel stiffer (the old wobble test!), but then again so do my irons (which have true temper, I think!)

I use probably the best hybrid on the market at the moment the Cobra Baffler DWS 20 degree loft. It has an Alida NV HL65 shaft regular kick mid flex and is 65g

I tried every possible make when I was looking for a hybrid (partly because vanity told me I could still hit a 3 iron 190 yards with draw at will like in my youth). The Cobra does everything a hybrid should. Its long (very) has a nice trajectory and is easy to use

Just sold my 2/r 18 deg Baffler on Ebay, replaced with a Srixon w-302 5 wood.
It's just a case of getting the gaps in your yardages between clubs correct so hopefully you don't get caught out having to either kill it with one club or tickle it with another, want a nice 80% swing on all shots ideally.

Funny old game, isn't it? I had a Ping G5 19* with that NVS r-80 hybrid shaft in it. I hated it. Couldn't get the thing to go straight and when it did the ball flight was so high you'd think I'd hit an 8 iron. totally uncontrollable for me.

The plot thickens,

I have found some hybrids for sale with 65-R shafts (aldila), so it would appear that the 75-80g shafts aren't necessarily the weight for utility...

????

Interesting that 23rdman also struggled with an 80g R shaft....maybe I'm not a freak at all!
