Hybrid dilemma

I've recently decided that although the range is a necessary evil to bed in swing changes for the longer clubs, I much prefer to practice on the course (or our 150 yard practice hole). That's where I'm having my lessons now and the feedback from hitting to a 'real' target is so much better.

Tried the Baffler Rail H on the course the other day and also think thus is the best way to test a club and am keen to do that from now on. Problem is my pro has a limited range of clubs for me to try.

So my questions are:

1. Has anyone tried the old and new baffler and could they tell a difference (apart from £50 price)?

2. Has anyone tried the new K15 hybrid and noticed any improvement on the G15 model?

He also stocks the Titleist 909H and the Wilson Fybrid.

Really liked the baffler but into the wind it just hung up in the air. As an example I hit one shot into the wind 191 yards and one shot with the wind 255 and I swear the quality of connection was identical! Are all hybrids like this?

Any thoughts appreciated.

I stupidly bought a couple of bafflers without trying them first due to the rave reviews that they were getting on here at the time.

Well, I'll tell you, high isn't the word for it with the baffler, it went higher than a 64 degree wedge. They just were not right for me. Balloon clubs.

I like the baffler but as mentioned, they do get a very high flight.

This can be overcome to an extent by adjusting the shot so it is more like playing a 5w.

I like them, the high flight and less roll suits hard ground ideally.

Might be worth seeing what local retailers have although if there are other pros in the area try them first. I had the Cobra DWS a few years back and it was great but it did fly high. My TM resscue has a much better flight. I don't think the new Ping range are on general sale yet but if they have one at the demo day on Saturday I'll give it a go and let you know

If you want a low launching hybrid, you won't go far wrong with the old Titleist 585H. Not as easy to hit as many others, but has a good penetrating launch angle. Cheap as chips too.

Tiger, I found if I hit down on my hybrid like a 4/5i it balloons to high, I tend to use this for around 180-190 shots, for more distance I hit it like a 5w and the flight is lower with a distance of around 200-210. Not great didtances from a 3h but consistent flight and total lengths, my tip would be play with stances and ball positions )

Thanks guys. Not a big fan of high flying clubs. Homer if you can whack the k that would be great though I have a feeling it will launch high as a kite. Mmm might have to compromise and go to the range at American Golf.

All comes down to what shaft aswell you have fitted to the hybrids

If you want to keep it low try a 3/2 iron with a very thick sole or a adams pro hybrid.

I have an old Macgregor m455 as an example. I find it very useful as I can't hit 3,4 irons of my m685's.

Try and find one of the very old Titleist iron like hybrid's or try the adams pro...


apparently the pro's like it.

I've got the fybrids and they're a lot more of a piercing flight.
never tried the bafflers tho.
