Huge huge HUGE!

Just thought I would share with you my delight at achieving an ambition of mine. The range I use (Brickhampton) has a very high fence at the back line at 220 yards, and has 90% balls which are roughly correct up to mid irons, but way shorter for the long drives compared to normal balls.

Today, into a breeze, I hit balls over that fence. Not just a fluke one or two, but about half a dozen, and most reasonably accurate too. I saw one ball land on the other side on about 250 and roll to about 270. Difficult to say what the distance with real balls would be, but considering the breeze I would estimate well over 330 yards.

Mission accomplished. Now to work on accuracy and consistency.
Just jelous tim dont be minding them  :o :D

Wait a minute...you use Brickhampton Driving Range? In Churchdown, Gloucester?

Why didn't you say! I could have been using your swing speed tips to help improve my game!
That's the one. Give me a shout and we can arrange for a lesson for you. ;) How high would you say that fence is, and how good are the balls?

Balls are OK. Better than most ranges I've been to.

Have no idea how high the fence is. I've never felt the urge to have to try and hit my ball over it, since the golf course is right behind it.

Iiiiiiiin the red corner weighing in at 180 pounds the mizuno obsessed, White driver wielding challenger from Gloucester England. Jonathan 'Aztecs' Eve!!!!!

:D

Brilliant!

I'd obviously only need my 5 iron though. I get 300 yards carry with that bad boy.

There's a few on here who would be clearing that fence with a 3wood so its no biggy.

Thats probably true Mr Dodger, however I think its this little snippet that most people fall asleep at:

Difficult to say what the distance with real balls would be, but considering the breeze I would estimate well over 330 yards

That is just a pathetic statement. FACT

You can tell that all the way from Norwich?

Of course I cant , but if there was tree at 220 I for one would be going over it with 3wood and i'm no where near the bigger hitters on here from what i've read :D

My younger brother played off 17 but hasn't been playing much recently due to work commitments. Had him to the range with me several times and he regularly sends the range balls over the back of the hedge at 250 yds with his 15 year old small headed driver. He will be the first to tell you though it is all about the short game and it was his inability from 100 yds in that had him stuck on 17. Though he has the ability to drive the ball over 250 at the range he doesn't really get that much extra with ordinary balls on the course. He maybe carries the ball about 260 and I suppose on a good dry day with no wind it may roll to 300 with a favourable bounce on landing. I'm not sure why you believe yours will continue on to 330.

Interesting article for Timgolfy in another golf publication about Joe Miller, long drive champion. 6'4 over 19 stone, longest drive 474 yards. He won with his first drive, which was fortunate as he swung so hard with his next one that he broke his toe.

The 2008 and 2009 long drive champion, Jamie Sadlowski is 5'10 and less than 12 stone. He can generate over 200 mph ball speed. He can also hit it over 300 yards with a putter.

lol,
As mentioned in Clydebank Dispatches today!

Your sums don't add up sorry.

The balls are 90% no matter what club you hit.
Also do they have yardage markers behind their back fence? bit daft!

You do seem to grab at what if's though and add on 40 yards for good measure.. Plus get 20 yards of roll into the wind!
