How would you guys react?

This is why I asked for opinions - like you and Fyldewhite suggest, it's golf on a measured course and as such go out and enjoy it.
But on the other hand, I want to play the course as it's intended for competition, with the hazards in play, to think how it should be done. The biggest differences in distances tend to be on the longer & harder par 4's which make them entirely different holes and of course the par 5's become eminently more accessible in 2.

ON saturday I hit our 1st, a 488 par 5 with driver and 7 iron, the 401 & 403 par 4 6th & 12th in driver, gap wedge. But normally the bunkering makes those holes so different, you either have to lay up, or risk/reward going along side or between bunkers from 35 or 41 yards further back off the whites. Instead I just flew all the trouble.

Thanks for your replies so far chaps - food for thought!

Doesn't help you, but there is an argument that playing of the whites removes the hazards for the shorter/average hitters so they don't get to play the course as it was intended (all be it due to ability). Perhaps moving to the yellows means that a greater amount of the membership get to "enjoy" putting it in a fairway bunker.

You appear to be a good player so I can understand your concern, but really it's just a round of golf with different challenges for you. Out of interest, how much lower do you score of the yellow tees on average?

I don't care which tees I play off for any competition - though I believe i perform 'better relative to the field' off Yellows than Whites!

The reasoning behind going to Yellows does seem bizarre though - committee-itis striking again?

I can understand why they didn't cut the rough - because it's actually not a trivial task (amongst all the other things the GK-s have to do) to do so! It takes 2 or 3 days to do the entire course! That's the same reason where the growth in warm, wet Spring is such that they 'lose' it for a week or 2 - with predictable 'complaints' about lost balls and slow rounds!

If golfers actually saw the work that goes into preparing a golf course - every day - I'm certain there'd be far fewer complaints and many of those that continued to complainers would be seen as the habitual complainers they probably are!

Some good points - we have looked at tee time gapping, and the club keep reminding people to let through faster groups etc etc etc
However, I find that some people just tee off as soon as the group in front are out of range, and as I said before we weren't let through despite making up a 16 minute gap in 3 holes and then waiting on every tee and fairway for the remainder of the round.

I think what is really required is a marshall, and one with the balls to actually move/reprimand people.

Ex club of mine plonked down a sizeable digital clock on the first tee directly next to the markers which seemed to help even when the marshal/starter wasn't present. Worth a thought

Just wondered if it is gossip that they are going to play all competitions off the yellow or fact. If fact has everyone who is unhappy about it written in to complain?

I understand the work taken for GKs, and am not moaning about that, I believe common sense would have been to play a stableford that weekend, which would have been sensible to possibly speed up play (and even off yellows as a one off). Playing a medal, where all balls/shots counted that weekend was the mistake IMHO.

Was in the weekly newsletter - many have written in, some have done so in person (including me) and for the most part politely, or so I believe!

Ah, I suppose at least they kept you informed. Are all your yellow tees set up forward from the whites? The mens Wednesday stableford competition which runs at ours over summer is played off the yellows. However, I know the other week when I marked HID's card there was only 1 yellow tee that was forward of the whites.

Mostly they are in similar locations, maybe 10 or so yards forward. But some are upto 30/40 yards forward.

I would t be happy and would voice that but ultimately it's about making a score on whatever layout you are presented with. Once I was out there it wouldn't bother me what tees I was playing from

A rhetorical question for you; would the length affect your choice to go and play an open somewhere? No? Its a game of golf, and everyone is suffering/experiencing the same.

I'd be happy to be out playing with mates, and the score will be whatever it will be. Play well and a cut is coming. Play badly and its 0.1. A shot or so in CSS won't make enough difference to make it worthwhile bumping your gums over.
