How to putt?

Thats the trouble with forums, you cant tell what someone means by just reading their words.
I have had some comments made against my teaching methods in the passed on here and I thought you may be another 'expert' who just wanted to argue.
Apologies.

If you look at the 'best' putters on tour, most of them are very similar in technique, but I agree, there's no definitive 'right way'
I think Sergio at no. 7 in the world would be higher if he could putt.

No problem Bob.

Sergio would be consistently top 3 if he could putt, and would have won at least one major. Shame.

or should one push the hands forward a little in this case?

Do you mean at address or as a forward press?
If you mean at address, you shouldnt have the hands forward of the ball as this will de-loft the putter face

Either....don't both de loft the putter?

I see you have an offset putter which means your hands are ahead of the putter, if you had a straight necked putter (bullseye or TPA style) then do you have to have your hands a little forward?

Last time out I would have shot my lowest score by at least 6 if I was a half decent putter.

Playing this afternoon Bob and will be having 20 minutes on the putting green first.

If I don't improve it is all your fault Bob. Not mine :D

sammeebee,
If your putter isn't offset, just move the ball half an inch forward in your stance. That will encourage a slight upward stroke at impact to get the ball rolling more quickly.

Bob, you are a legend.

Naah, just a good guesser :)

I gather it went well?
No four putts and plenty of two putts.

Biggest improvement was not leaving the ball a million miles short. Also got more from about 6 foot in 18 holes than I had in the previous two years!!!

Spent 20 minutes on the putting green before hand. Without aiming at a hole I hit three putts with narrow, medium and a wide stance and noted the distance.

Walked move the balls together and nearest hole was 15' away, first ball at it dropped, second clipped the hole and want past and the third a foot short.

I can only think of one putt that I left woefully short (but I did knock the next one in for a par :)

Tony, you could send him yours if you're not using it ;)
Can you imagine how I feel when I watch the likes of Sergio, Darren Clark, Lee Westwood and more recently Paul Mcginley having problems.
Patience. The first 50 will be ready in Hong Kong tomorrow :D
