How Stressfull Is Golf For You?

I have enough stress at work without letting my hobby add to it. Might swear a little or let my shoulders drop but I rarely finish a round stressed.

Absolutely zero on the stress levels for me.

Love playing. Love competing even more.

I'm not sure I'd have the same thoughts if I couldn't break 80. But that is just me, not a dig at anyone!!!

How do you feel when you have a total mare and shoot over 80 if you ever do? Then imagine doing that for ten or twenty rounds on the run.

I know when I have a nightmare it just makes me want to practise harder and play better next time, I find it hard to quit on anything.

At the end of the day, if you're stressing over your golf you're taking it too seriously.
The only players who are entitled to stress out are those playing big events - Walker Cup etc - or those playing for a living.
Anyone else..- get real. It's a hobby.

I can get uptight now and then, also want to kick the cat now and then, even though I don't have one. The older I get the harder it is to stay at 5 and I get miffed big time the odd occasion, usually for a short period, when I go up to 5.5 or higher.

Like me, I think most people need to accept, what they actually have, might just be their limit.

At the end of the day, no one gets killed and I know absent friends who would love to be out there playing crap golf......... and how I would love them to be out there as well.

What is stopping you from getting down to 10?

No natural ability I guess, ive had it all come together and shot sub 80 rounds but not consistantly enough to get my hc down.I have more natural ability at other things and could give golf up but golf can be addictive with the constant need to improve your score.Theres a patteren emerging with this thread, the low handicapers it seems enjoy their golf more, I guess cos they play the game the way its suppossed to be played, either with natural ability or hard work I HATE YOU

I would be DELIGHTED to play off 5 even at 48 :D

Getting to 10/12 isn't that hard, a lot is down to course management and not making bad decisions. I can scab it round with truly awful golf and play to hc/buffer, don't chase the Sunday best shots, eliminate the silly ones that compact problems and make impacts on your score card.

I dont stress very much at all.... Im pretty laid back....In fact very laid back as a person which helps me even more on the course....
Its a game at the end of the day..... I eat sleep and drink the game...Every spare moment i have im either reading about tips or surfing the Net....I practice twice a week in winter and play at the weekends......

Some on here think that i long for a perfect swing....I dont..... What i want is a reliable swing and im getting there..... So stress for me is non existent...I dont let the game get me in bad form......I enjoy the thrill of the goal too much......

Out of the last ten rounds around 6 have been 84, 85 two late 80's and two low 80's.like I say when I knuckle down and practice have lessons, read books on the mental side of the game theres no improvement and then I just get fed up with it all.I could have not played for a year have a severe hangover use spalding clubs and shoot 85,use the best gear, have permanent lessons with David Leadbetter and be married to Britney Spears and I'd still shoot 85, although I proberly wouldn't give a dam about golf if I was married to Ms Spears :)

No stress at all......

Plenty of "f"s, cusses, frustration, annoyance and the rest....

But no stress.....
Same for me, love the game to bits. Realise there are worse things happening in the world and just feel privileged to be playing the game I love. Couldn't care anymore if I shot 75 or 115. Just as long as I had an enjoyable time.

We have all been there, most cappers around that level have 1 weak area that's holding them, and a lot of the time it's the inability to recover, you will undoubtedly drop shots, your a hc golfer, it's limiting it too one shot rather than 2/3 that will get the scores down.

As an example, you scab a drive off the tee 100 yards into the crap, don't pull a 3 wood and try and flush it 200+' 8i/7i it out and be where your drive would be, the chance of hitting a half decent mid iron back into play from the cabbage is a lot higher than crunching a 3w, most who take the 3w option will scuttle it along the deck 50 yards and still be 100 yards back from where there drive would be and be two shots down the pan.... It's these bad decisions that rack up high scores.

Can I ask.....
Where do you drop your shots?

That's the same as me, you have reached a level and that's it, either get used to it and enjoy it and you might find yourself flying down or just keep beating yourself up, I know what I am choosing.
Oh and you can keep Britney Spears.

No stress at all. I believe I can improve but I don't fret over it and it's not like I'm busting a gut trying to do so by practicing for hours on end. It's frustrating at times, particularly when I make silly mistakes around the greens but I know that I don't practice enough to beat myself up over it.

Not even when you are carrying your fourball partner.:ears:

Never stressful but often not fun.

Find the fun and you find golf, for me its going back to the 3 goals method and I pretty much always find my fun again.

I am going to shifts soon so will pretty much be able to play every weekday, cnt wait for that!

Since I changed my attitude to golf this time last year and play for fun it's been a lot more fun.
I'm never going to make the tour, I'm not going to make a living at it, it's always going to cost me a fortune and there's far worse things in life to get stressed about than the hobby I have so I play for fun and have fun with the people I play with.
