How Serious do you take the game

Based on Robobum's list I take it quite seriously.
I have lessons, I'm trying to get fitter over winter in readiness for next season, I try to understand my swing so I can keep it going correctly during a round and I know a little about the technology I use.

However, compared to many on this forum I'm not too fanatical about it.
I still don't know what stack & tilt is, I don't know all the brands of shaft and their various strengths & weaknesses, I'm not into mental training/coaching and I rarely practice (most of my practice is out on the course).

But when I play I want to win (matchplay) or go as low as I can (strokeplay), and enjoy it whilst I'm doing it.

Got 1st Rnd of Winter Singles k/o tomorrow and first match in 4BBB winter league on Sunday - so will be deciding on Sunday evening whether or not I should take the game more seriously.

Had third lesson on Thursday, played nine holes and hit balls afterwards, out at sunrise yesterday and this morning hitting balls, same tomorrow and few holes tomorrow afternoon. I've got a day off during the week so will hit balls in the morning then and I can work from home another day so will do same then - the swing is beginning to get there.

And so Saturday - Good enough front nine - 4 over gross for me but we were two down. Back nine my head got full of non-golf stuff and no room for sensible golf thinking - and I dropped 10 shots and we lost 4-2. But feeling was that although Iwas 4 over h/cap and we lost - it was my head rather than my game.

And so to Sunday. A new day and starting with a clear head. Played a 6 handicapper and we finished on the 13th with me having won 7-5. Opponent didn't play very well but I was in lucky and ruthless form. Had dropped 4 or 5 when we finished.

And to conclude. Overall happy - I suppose. Plenty of good enough stuff game-wise - but weekend showed me - as if I didn't already know - how important my head is to my ability to play to my game. When my head gets too busy, and I have no room for golf-thinking, my scoring falls to bits. Keep a clear head and focus on simply tackling the golfing challenge immediately being presented, and I do just fine.

Back to the OP's question, after reading Homers thread on "having some fun", I reckon I take the game of golf less seriously that just about anyone else on this forum.

My point was really that I think that my head is much more important to how I play than whether I take game seriously in respect of lessons, practice, reading about technique; choosing best equipment; getting fitted clubs etc. So - for me - when I want to take a round seriously, I must really focus on me and the shot I am about to play - and that may well make me pretty uncommunicative and maybe seem overly serious. Next round of Winter k/o - up against either a 5'er or a 6'er. I know them both well but I won't be very chatty.
