How often do you change your irons...

Had 1 set all 2016
Had a different set all 2015
Current set I can't see me getting rid for a while

Before that probably every other week!

Looking forward to bluewolf seeing this thread

:whoo:

Started playing again 5 years ago. Had about 12 different sets since then. Some new, some old. Guilty of being a serial tinkerer in the past, but very happy with my current set (even if I do still browse eBay for bargains).

To those that have multiple sets per year; are they fitted or are you buying standard clubs?

I have my eye on a set of M2 irons from last year, but thankfully as I know I have to get the length and lie changed, it's putting me off

I normally change when I'm bored, truth is most irons will have week over 5-10 years in them off looked after, we only change when we catch a bout of magpie-itis

I've only had a couple of sets of irons, loads of drivers though.

Mizuno MP30 from 2003-2011
Mizuno jpx pro 800 fro 2011 - this week
I now own a set of Ping I e1 irons.

In the 27 years playing ive had lots of sets, longest was TM lcg's played with them about 5 years, planning on keeping the current Titleist's a long time :D

not counting the cobras you couldn't hit? :p

I started around 4 years ago when jd were closing down, they had some Wilson's going cheap. I think I spent around £80 on them. Then I had some callaway hl. Then the tm tp cbs which I loved but couldn't hit. Now I have jpx850s cast, which suit the swing I have, just not the eye.

That takes me to around a 12 cycle, and I did get the mizunos last Feb....

This thread has made me think about it and actually list my career iron sets and whilst it's really embarrassing and shameful to have owned so many it's been therapeutic to "out" myself as a complete gear junkie fool. I've made a 100% committment to my current set up now but here goes in the last 15-16 years since giving up cricket and starting golf , i've owned.

MItsubishi starter set from JJB
John Letters Trilogy, TR47s
Cleveland TA7
Ping G5, G10, G15, G20, I20, G Series
Titleist AP1 original
Nike Victory Red, VRS Covert, Covert 2.0 twice, Vapor Speed , Vapor Fly
Callaway BB 2006, X2 Hot
Yonex XPG

and my current set. I've shocked myself but it's now time to grow up !!!

I'm on my 7th set in 10 years,

Dunlop starter set
Mizuno MX17
Mizuno MP57
Mizuno Mp32
Mizuno MP62
Mizuno JPX 850 Pro
Mizuno MP4

though most of that time Ive had 2 or more sets at one time.

At the moment only have one

I'm still on my first proper set since I took up the game 3 years ago. Lucky to win them through this very forum and havent looked back. They give me huge confidence over the ball and I'm definitely still improving with them so I think it'll be another year at least until I look again. Gone through my fair share of other clubs in that time though!

I did have a mish mash of irons when i first started but since I have been playing regularly it goes something like......

Macgregor M685 2 yrs
Ping i15 3 years
Adams CMB 6 months
Ping i15 1 year
Cally Apex Forged 8 months
Ping i15 6 months
Ping i e1 1 year

**disclaimer I also own a set of mp32's ..... just because I like to go out and pretend i can hit them every now and then.

Some kids blades (sadly lost to the dump)
Strata irons (first adult set)
Nike pro combos
Mizuno mp 52
Mizuno mp33
Titleist 690mb
Titleist 690mb.
Callaway prototype
Ping i15
Titleist 714 ap2

May be more but cant think right now.

Forgot the Adams Blue irons too. 22 sets in 15-16 years is a joke !!! Hope no-one sets up a driver thread !!!

No really a serial iron changer.... over about ten years...

Cobra s7
Mizuno mx200
Ping g15
Mizuno jpx 825 forged
TM Cb's
Srixon z745....

Not too bad I guess ;)

Been playing for around 35 years.

In that time I have had:

McGregor Tourney
Ping Eye
Titleist Tour Model Forged
McGregor DoctorX
Some Taylor Mades I cannot remember the name of - very brief
Callaway X-16 Pro
Ping i25

I know I had the Titleist, DoctorX and X-16 Pro sets for the longest. The X-16's for at least 10 years.

I think I will have the i25's for many years to come unless there is suddenly a game changing technology that revolutionises golf. No reason to change, they are absolutely fantastic.

I also had a set of Mizuno blades from RickG (:() but they only lasted a round.

In 16 years I've had..

Macgregor Ironman
Ping i3
Cleveland TA5
Mizuno Pro II
Titleist 762
Callaway X18
Mizuno MP32
Ping S58
Mizuno MP53
Ping i25
Srixon 545/745

I never sold the Mp53 and I've been back using them for the last 12 months.
Easily the best irons I've had, followed by the Titleist.

With all the confessionals going on thought I would work out what I have had in the 20 or so years since I started playing and not as bad as I thought it might be and seems to be around 4 years between sets :-

Individual bought irons as I could afford them and get started
Yonex graphites - no idea why i bought them probably ignorance (high handicapper).
Mizuno Zoids - design fault inside shaft meant they rusted inside after a couple of years and snapped regularly and Mizuno would just change out one by one for free but got bored with the hassle and last couple were specially imported so took far too long
Taylormade RAC's
Mizuno MX 25's
Mizuno JPX 825 Pro's

Club fitting next week .... think it is time for a different brand but what is another matter.

Last time when fitted (Golf Principles) had shafts sorted and was told any of these 6 models will work well with little or no difference in performance - hit a few and choose the ones you like.
