Counting clubs and apparel how much stuff does a tour pro actually take to an event i.e:
(has GM ever asked this when doing WITB)

Do they really just take 14 clubs or travel with say 20 and pick the 14 they'll use on a given day or do they rely on getting stuff from the tour trucks
How many pairs of shoes will they bring for an event?
Are balls all supplied when they get there or bring your own?

I'm guessing they play about 5-6 rounds in a typical week what with a practice/pro-am thrown in does that = 5-6 complete golf clothing outfits from caps to socks or would they typically have much more than this? Or is the hotel laundry service getting hit every couple of days

Just idle curiosity but anyone any ideas?

I'm sure Ive seen this in a mag before.

But if you are a top player, very little i imagine.

clubs, tour van or would be at bigger events so anything that was part of the sponsorship would be given then, same clothing.

That raises another question Patrick, are the top guys even wearing off the peg stuff that can be picked up on site or is it all made to measure gear i.e Martin Kaymer has a pretty specific fit & sponsorship. I doubt Hugo Boss turn up at each event with his clothes so he'd need to get them in advance

i Imagine they (the sponsors rep) turn up at the event and give them what they are wearing for the week. didn't Nike run a comp to decide or design what Rory wore for one even?

My best friend has been a pro for over 30 years. I have had a few rounds with him, and he takes out a small bag and about half dozen clubs. Meanwhile, I have everything in my bag, including the kitchen sink and the last 240 copies of training spotting weekly.

Does the answer to this depend on how far up the food chain you are. Rory will get pampered as much as he needs, Mr 210 in the world may have to bring everything. I think it is those at the lower ends, Mr 210, rather than a Rory that are the ones of interest in this question, to me anyway.

Lets take a Kaymer, or a good tour pro.

I would expect that they have been sent all their clothes, shoes, hats etc in advance. I'd expect Kaymer to take the clothing for the 4 days, with shoes etc, and possibly a spare set of shoes etc.

I'd expect him to take 14 clubs, potentially more if he was unsure between 2 clubs for example, obviously taking the ones he doesn't decide to go with out the bag.

Balls, gloves would be in his locker when he reaches the changing rooms I presume. Watched a Rickie Fowler YouTube video where they follow him around, and he went to the locker room, and his balls and gloves were there for him.

Perhaps I am wrong about the Kaymer example, but that is sort of the scenario I would expect for a tour event.

Didn't Poulter post a couple of years back on twitter that FJ sent him (while he was with them) something like 20-30 pairs at the start of the season. I would suggest he then packs the ones he wants for the week. Probably the same for outfit. They get balls, caps, gloves left in a pigeon hole on tour vans but I guess these get given away each week anyway.

he' is talking about a touring pro rather than a teaching pro

So that's the same as you in shoe count for the start of the season then ;).

Pretty sure the top pro's have their gear sent to them at the beginning of each season. Summer gear start of summer. Winter start of winter etc. Im pretty sure though, as mentioned, the top guys get what they ask for when they ask for it. Balls gloves etc are usually in the tour vans if they need em or at the respective stands.

They have what they need in theit bags but use the vans for tweeks or replacement during the tournament. If their sponsors van isnt going to be present at an event they pack a little extra.

I read a piece from a few years ago that some of the top guys literally have their specific wardrobe for each day listed/locked in months in advance of a major (after player & brand consultation) so that it's detailed right down to which cap gets worn on which day

Partly to market the products and partly to avoid clashes with other players in the same group
