How many swing thoughts do you have? And when is it time to stop tinkering?

Finally! I feel that I now have a half decent repeatable swing with just two swing thoughts (Quiros's imagine your hit against a brick wall at impact and keep head down through impact).

However, for years I have been looking for that one or two things that make that little white ball go straight (especially with the driver) trying numerous things to no avail. When finally it clicked (with the above), however as the ball now goes straight I'm now starting on working the ball left to right and vice-versa! When is it time to stop tinkering? NEVER!

My main aim to work on is my consistancy, my pro has me using a wide arc so when I get this right which is about 60% at the moment it goes straight. My main work in on ball striking, so I get under the ball as tend to top it. My thoughts are mainly getting the arc correct at the start of my backswing and how I hit the ball. When it comes together I hit straight and true and this will do for me. Not too interested in fades and draws as in just hitting straight so I can tehn introduce more speed/power into the shots as only getting about 80% at the moment.

I don't have a swing thought per say at the minute.

I have a particular "feeling" I look to get through impact, but no "thoughts" as such.

....... And the tinkering never stops :D

I have one. See the club hit the ball.

A cluttered mind = a bad shot.

And stop tinkering when you are happy with the level of performance achieved. I haven't changed anything in my swing for about 5 years. That was my grip and needed to be done following a full dislocation of my right elbow which meant I could not straighten my arm properly. Don't tinker, refine and stick with it when it is right and you are happy.

For me, it depends on my form. When i'm playing well I don't have any swing thoughts. It simply club selection then hit it. When my game isn't there, then I always refer to lessons that i have had and changes that my pro made. So I would say 3 is the maximum ammount of swing thoughts I have. I think this is more than enough.

As I bring the club up to the top my mind is focused on starting the downswing with my lower half and the rest takes care of its self. Only ever one thought during the swing, anything else and my timing suffers!

Mine is focus on the target. Used that after reading Bob Rotella books and its helped my scores so far.

The dreaded swing thoughts. Have to say as my practice time this year has dwindled due to work changes, my number of swing thoughts has increased and game suffered as a result.

I've found the less I work on my game the more I think about how i'm meant to play it rather than letting the swing be a habit of the work i've put in. Went to the range this week went right back to basics concentrating purely on just takeaway and was striping the ball lovely. This has always been my main focus when playing well and practicing as everything falls in place after that.

So from now on, 1 swing thought about my takeaway and nothing else. As for tinkering it never stops no matter where you get in any sport.
