How many oceans

Yes I have before, they go on to say there are considered to be 5 named oceans.
I am unsure of what your point is 🤷

Ok I’ll help you out

You had a quiz that claimed there were 7 oceans

There are publications that have 7 oceans as the modern 7 seas which is were imo quizzes etc get it wrong

As both articles show

There is 1 ocean

5 geographical oceans

But some split the Pacific and Atlantic up into North and South to make it 7

So, you posted two links - one about 7 seas, and one about 5 oceans. Neither adddresses my curiousity about 'who' is saying 7 Oceans. Interesting to know from the OP as to where the quizmaster got his info from.

Yes I know this. Perhaps in future start out with this instead of just posting random links about ye olde stuff with no real context.🤷. We can all google mate.

There will be numerous articles out there with some claiming 7

Some 5

Depending on where you are in the world some count the Seven Seas as the 7 oceans

Some have the Med and South China in there as well

I'm not entirely sure, when asked we were told she checked on Google and it was correct.! Seems there's a lot of that going on 🤣
I can say that I had never heard the Atlantic and Pacific being split in to 4 separate oceans. So I invented some new ones, they did sound feasible though 😂

The world is one ocean with some bits of land in it.

You can divide the one ocean up into as many parts as you wish and give them whatever names you choose, since their is no world authority to stop you.

If some people agree some naming convention and other people agree another naming convention, a "Says who?" argument can ensue - and there be dragons.

And here we have a Dr confusing the matter as well

“I name this sea an ocean…”

“I split this ocean to create two oceans…”

Maybe there’s some criteria that makes it an ocean, or two oceans out of one. All seems a bit academic.

Different countries call different bodies of water by different names. The English Channel or La Manche…

I can understand why there might be a debate about the Med being an ocean as it’s made up of so many different seas. But I don’t quite understand why they’ve split the Atlantic & Pacific oceans into north and south. Nor do I understand how there can be an Antarctic ocean & a Southern ocean. Can’t say I’m bothered by it all though…

They will all be the American Ocean if Donald gets his way.
So it will only be one your correct.👍

But is it a lake? It’s fully enclosed…
It is not freshwater.
Low salinity - brackish water.

It is either a salty lake or an inland sea.

Over the centuries the more local peoples have called it various names which roughly translate to things like The Persian Sea, The Big Sea, etc.
