How many members do you know.

All our competitions are drawn. In the Summer we have medal rounds on a Wednesday and Friday night. We make 2 draws, the 1st at 6pm and the 2nd at 6.20pm. You just turn up, put your name in and then the cards are drawn out at random so you always end up playing with a different person. For competitions at the weekend an entry sheet usually goes up about 2 weeks before hand. When the draw is done we try and make it so there is a low handicapper, a mid handicapper and a high handicapper unless it's a seeded draw. This and the fact we are a small club in a small place means everyone knows everyone else. Makes for a good atmosphere in the bar afterwards.
Sounds much like the first club i joined when i first took up the game.Certainly got to meet more members and no strange faces in the bar afterwards. This is how clubs should be run IMO.

Probably about 10 who I play reasonably regularly through the year but as I have a couple of regular partners who are same as me and never turn down the chance to play I usually get out with the same group every week. The rest are fairly close friends of one or another of us and we mix up the groups a bit every now and then - shame is we mainly play at different times dues to some being off in the week / shifts etc whereas I can only play at the weekend unless I grab a few hours off in the week (something I do in the Summer as much as possible :))
.

On top of those guys having played in comps all last year I have found a few new people to play and whenever I turn up to practice there is usually someone offers. There is a swindle on Saturday and Sunday but not made it to that yet will be trying it out in about a month when my options are limited for a couple of weeks - I have an open invite to both so I had better join in - good excuse to play more!!

At the moment i don't know any well enough to phone them up and ask for a game, i only joined in November and i don't have a handicap so i was hoping for introductions to other members in the 5day plus membership i took up. So far i've manged to put one card in, that was after the membership secretary gave me dispensation to play in a comp with some 7day members, which was ok for getting a card in, but not great for future games as they all play early at weekends and i can't tee off till after 11.

E-mailed the secretary again the other day and he's said that when we get to spring it will be easier to arrange introductions with other guys in my membership category, so hopefully in a couple of months i'll know a lot more members.

I am very fortunate in that my club has a relatively small membership - around 220 men with around 160 handicap holders. All our competitions are drawn and I would estimate that I know and have played with around 150 of those with handicaps - and I've played with most of the ladies as well.
