How many clubs in your bag can you accurately hit 150 yards?

On a calm normal day in summer it's an 8i not sure I'd get there with a 9i. I only practice 1/2 or 3/4 shots with my wedges so if a went at 150 with a 7 or 6 iron I don't suppose I'd be too accurate on a regular basis.

On a still day, no elevation change etc it would be my 7 iron.

I could swing easy with the 6 or really try to muller an 8, but the 8 wouldn't be accurate, so would only be used if I really wanted to pitch short and run on.

snelly , `smash a 54 wedge 150 !! ` u been sniffing the `thinners` again ... :D

Perhaps not. Must've written that after a strong coffee today! :D

Wouldnt get close with a pw, 9 iron possibly but erratically! To any degree of consistency would be 8,7,6. I do like playing a punched 5 iron into the wind though.

Depending on the conditions for me it would probably be a 7,8,9 iron and maybe a forced PW but the accuracy with that would be hit and miss i think......

Cant say I have ever tried it but have heard numerous stories about Christy OConnor Jnr and a Yank having a discussion on the practice ground of a tournament and the american loud as ever called over to him asking him what he was hitting to the 150 marker. CO'C replied 6 iron, the american laughed and poked a little fun at his lack of distance. CO'c pulled out every club and hit every one of them up to the marker including sandwedge. Love stories like this.

I'm confused. Are you asking 'How many clubs could you hit 150 yards on a clear day?" or "Depending on the conditions what clubs could you hit 150 yards?"

If it's the former probably three though an easy 7 iron is my new preference. If it's the later anything from gap wedge to 2 hybrid!!!!

I meant on the flat on a clear day without wind.

Would hit an 8 or a 9 iron depending whether trouble was at the front or back. Try and avoid hitting three quarter shots as much as possible, and keep the game as simple as possible. ;)

Interesting question. I would always say I'd go with a 7I for a straight 150-yard shot with absolutely no hazards and no wind and moderate air temperature. (You have to take these into consideration really, because conditions change...I've landed a 9I on a 173-yard green, downhill and with a tail-wind. Another time I've taken a 5W on the same hole.)

I've never really practised half shots or chip-and-run shots with any of my other clubs, so at the moment I would go with a regular 7I, a draw with an 8I, or a fade with a 6I to achieve about the same distance.

If I had to hit 150-yards under a tree or something, so was taking a 3I or 4I, chances are I'd get nowhere near the target.

I reckon accurately I could use a 6 iron and a 7 iron. Looking towards 8 and 9 I would be swinging a bit too close to maximum all out power to reach and be comfortable. Going the other way I'd be ok with a 5 and 4 manipulating the shot to be the right distance but accuracy is anyones guess. It would be more accurate than the 8 and 9 option though as not throwing the kitchen sink into it.
Unlike some heroes I'm just not a bit hitter.

Is it just me or am I totally rubbish - I don't think I can many clubs in my bag 150 yards full stop, let alone accurately.

I can only hit my 3wd and driver above 150 yards...4 iron @ 145 yards. I didn't quite realise I was that bad until this thread!

For me 150 is bang on a 7 iron. Could hammer the 8 possibly. The 58 degree lob wedge, now sitting in the garage, was quite capable of 150 yds on the odd occasion

for me its a steady 7i, a mullered 8i low and punchy of the back foot, could maybe get there with a 6i and 5i although i havent practiced these sorts of shots much.

What is interesting is i tend to play a 6i off the back foot to punch out from under tree's and its amazing how far a half swing punched 6i goes.

I'd prefer either the 8, which be a tad short, or the 7, which might be a tad long. much depends on conditions, mood etc. long shot might be a hard low 5 punch
