OK, been playing less than a year and have had 6 sets of irons I've now decided the set of Srixons I've bought will be staying. I know they are a lesser club than the Ping G15's that I'm selling as we speak or the tour edge set that I had and liked but I'm ebay daft and if a bargains there I go for it without thinking.
To cut to the chase, does it take a few rounds or a dozen to get into a set. dont want to keep changing for changings sake. I'll hide in a bunker and take what's coming but looking for some advice. ;)

Depends how often you play/practice, whether the shafts are different weight/make/flex, how different in offset and swingweight they are.

I woulodn't say that Srixon clubs are inferior to Ping. They make some lovely irons and if they work better for you they are by definition better.

If you practice about once a week and play about the same I would have thought you should be getting used to them in about a month or so. That's approx what it took me the last time I changed.

About 4 or 5 games I reckon, although you should be able to hit a lovely set of MX200's with Nippon shafts first time out.
I'm not buying them smiffy :D

Have you not heard of the two week rule :D :D

All golf clubs should work really well for the first two weeks, then when novelty has worn of and you start treating them like your old clubs they start misbehaveing.

So to answer your initial question, if you pick them up and like the feel and look of them there is no reason why you cannot put them straight into play.

Took me about 3 holes to get used to mines, but i loved the look, weight and feel of them so love at first sight really :D. Just give them a month or so and if you still cant hit them you could always ask Smiffy or Homer if theyre selling anything ;)

Keeping the Pings that were fitted for me as i would regret it in the long run. set of srixons to get rid of now :(

Have you just changed irons again? Thats the most frequent ive seen someone change before its not going to be good for your game if you keep changing. Maybe you should go and get some councilling or something ;)

Just taken the TP's out for an introductory swing at the range and can't see them leaving the bag soon. They need regripping as they are a couple of layers too thin for me but boy they feel great. Need to have a serious think now. The tour burners will definitely be up for sale soon (once I get some pics done) and then I need to decide what to do with the R9's. Think I'll keep them for a bit just to keep the TP's on their toes and honest.

Another set you can't get on with? Maybe you should just go and get some second hand Mizuno MX200's and be done with it. If you don't get on with those, I would give up the bloody game

That's what I keep trying to tell him Owen, but he just won't listen
:( :( :(

When I got my recent set, I went out without any woods/hybrid and only a SW just in case.
Had them sorted in 2-3 games....

I suppose the quickest way is to get in the range-time ASAP.

I had just the one set I never got used to.......

A couple of years back when I first got my standard R7s the only thing I needed to do was get used to the yardage for each club, they fitted like a glove. Stupidly, a while back, I sold then on a whim for a set of R7 TPs thinking it would be easy peasy.

What a bad move, they were not bad but I just didn’t feel at home and quickly sold them for another set of standard R7ns, thank fook. The funny thing is, I was using a set of Titless ZB irons and I played quite well with them until I got R7ns again.

So, you can be lucky, but I wouldn’t fiddle around with too many sets of irons no matter how good you are. The proof of this thread is the end result of that.

I knew after 2 or 3 range sessions and 1 round that the i15's were not my cuppa. Poor impulse buy I'm afraid.
They just didn't look or feel right. I think most of us will have an idea after that amount of time.

will be using the Pings today and will percevere with them. I'm thinking I've been using them wrong with the wide soleplate they have. i'll let you know how I get on with them. cheers for the comments :)

Good man you won't regret it ,last year i had a set of AP2's and got to single figures with them ,for some stupid reason i changed and got X22 Tours and my handicap went up,then the Mp 52's followed no good with them now back to a set of Ping i10's with a reg shaft and hit the demo club great the way was hitting my irons before.
The morale of the story is the grass greener on th eother side.? .NO
