Interested to hear given I have just been through this myself and have formed an opinion but am not sure if I am right yet.....

For a driver mine took about 90 mins the three times I have been fitted

For irons mine was just under 3 hours

I guess it could vary dependent on fitter and how many different shafts or clubs etc you are trying during the fitting stage

In hindsight my 45 min session with the titleist touring fitter was slightly rushed. I am happy with my spec, but having experienced a more detailed fit at the national fitting centre (2 1/2 hrs) for driver, fairway and hybrid I would go for the full fit next time I'm looking at new irons. Touring fitter excellent for trying out no obligation though.

I had 2 x 1 hour sessions trying irons when looking for my irons recently. Ideal as I didn't get too tired or bash insane numbers of balls. When I did the whole bag at Pachesham it took 4 hours which was way too long even with a few breaks in there. In hindsight I should have done irons in one fitting and come back for woods and hybrid

Putter took about 45 minutes. irons took roughly the same.

Never been fitted for woods but I would imagine it would be something similar.

3 hours?! That seems crazy. What could possibly take that long? 30 minutes for the iron fitting and then 2.5 hours of you telling the bloke he was doing it all wrong and arguing one assumes.... :)

My view is that if it takes more than an hour then you are confused, hopeless, indecisive, delusional or having your ego stroked by a charlatan.

Surely that's down to how many different brands you are testing out.

Yes that has a bearing but really you are just trying to find the best shaft and head combination. 5 shafts to try? Easy to find the best in just a few shots with each surely? Then the heads on that shaft, same process. Job done.

MY recent iron fitting was 2.5hrs, I had two guys sorting clubs for me, I'd hit a few shots then we, well I write we, I mean the fitter would analyse the video, then tweak what I was using.

I get what you write Snelly about find the right shaft then using that shaft, find the right head, but during the 2.5hrs I was fitted we did that with few different makes of club, so I got the best shaft head combo for Callaway, Mizuno, Titleist, Ping and TM, so come the end of the fitting I knew that the best I could do was with the best suited for me in several makes. I could then choose a new set of irons based upon a superb fitting and be confident what I chose was going to be good for me.

Having been on a fair few of these it completely varies based on the fitting technology available and the number of brands and shafts available to try.

For example, our day fitting Mizuno irons only took around 45mins per person because the DNA system narrows the options down to a three heads and three shafts in a matter of minutes. However, if you have to narrow down your choices by hitting each and every combination on a launch monitor it will take much longer. It will be even longer if no launch monitor is available and you are doing it by eye and feel.

Having been fitted for irons, my session took no longer than an hour, which seemed ideal to me. Any longer and I'd probably get bored and start hitting it badly, lose concentration, wonder what's for tea etc...

Roughly just over an hour , was lucky to win a fitting and Graeme &@ Titleist National fitting centre in Edinburgh took his time , explained every detail as to what he was changing shaft wise and what he was trying to achieve for me with the changes .. very informative fitting & i learned loads

It really depends on the level of custom fit you want and which manufacturer, etc.

Irons - Quick and dirty fit: Static fit; new shaft via LM numbers; loft and lie: 30 mins.
Next level: All above, with shaft comparisons and head combos: up to 1 hr.
Next level after: All above, but fitting *each* club (loft and lie & gapping), grips, retesting: 2hrs.
Next level after: All above, plus pureing, balancing, weighting, frequency matching, etc. etc.: 3+hrs.

The actual fitting process should not be as lengthy as described, most people go into a fitting session with a few different irons/woods/wedges in mind. And from there it is a case of just measuring you up. I have a fitting on 1st of May but already have 3 irons that I want to try out. If I didn't I can imagine it would take ages!

Don't think mine took longer than an hour and was fairly comprehensive too.
Was fairly quick to decide on right shaft flex, shaft length, grip size and lie of clubhead.
After that it was just a matter of trying out a few different models to see which I hit the least worst
And tbh, I'm not overly fussy.
Was actually very informative.

I went to Precision Golf for a driver shaft fitting which took 2 hrs but it didn't take that long as they couldn't improve on the shaft I had already, so did a general look at my clubs and did a hybrid fit and he weighted my wedges as well.

Just done a wedge fitting with 2 of us which took 5hrs. Included a look at our putters and stroke, then general talk about design of wedges how they work, feel compared to our wedges, playing lots of differing shots and general chit chat and coffee break. Educational 5 hrs to say the least.
