I know I've only had my new Pings for a week, but I've been out on the course and hit in excess of 500 balls on the range and I can't get a feeling of control over them at all. Distance control is way off - good strikes (few and far between) travel varying distances, accuracy is all over the place and the look and feel isn't there either.
I spent 2 hours on the range this afternoon with the i15's and my old X20 Tours hitting the 3 or 4 balls with the same number club to a target and the Pings were useless in my hands. Now I know i'm used to the X20T's but I'm also no mug with a golf club and there's just something not right with these. They're 1/2 inch longer than standard and 2.25 degrees upright as fitted and this is obviously going to take time to get used to - but how long, how many balls have I got to hit before I know whether these clubs are right for me?

Right now I'm on the verge of putting the X20T's back in the bag and dumping the Pings - they're even starting to not look nice (that'll please you Murph!).

Sorry Imurg but this isn't going to lighten your mood..

I made a very big change from 'woodchopper' Ping eye2s to my 'sleek' MP60s and the change took about 3 rounds (about 100 shots).

Were the x20s standard length & lie?? 2.25 degrees seems like a big change!!

Oh dear this is not the first time I've heard of the same problem with these clubs.

My very good friend who plays off 9 got a set of these and is having the same problems as you he used to have the AP2s and guess what he's going back to?

Played with him on Sat and Sunday he too is at the stage where he is begining to hate them.

Nightmare for you. I would probably think about spending some time only hitting the most lofted Ping you've got and try to build some confidence that way.

Before I got my G2s, I had a set of Eye 2s and tried a Callaway set. It just looked bizarre at address and I couldn't hit them to save my life. Picked up the G2s and "Bang", I was sold.

It can be a big change when you move manufacturers, no wonder the pros often struggle.

Good luck!

I changed from Macgregor blades, standard length, standard lie S300 to Titleist ZB 1/2 longer, 2 degrees up, R300, and they were fine straight out of the box.

I have read many reviews of the I15s, and they are all good. I can't believe that you are the only guy in the world who can't hit them.

The good news, is that being Ping, they will change the loft and lie, and probably length if you want to go back to standard set up for nothing.

I know Ping aren't my brand, but I hope you get on with them. I can't see how the changes made are going to make them harder to middle, and you must have done that at your fitting session.

Are you swinging your normal swing, or expecting something a bit special, and trying too hard.

I would have thought that whatever the set up, you would have adjusted to it, right or wrong, after about 50 balls.

I hope you get this sorted pretty quickly, as it must be a horrible feeling.

This may sound daft but did they fit them to your swing and stance or did they fit them to how the pro thought, you should stand and swing? If they just measured you in the standard way eg knuckle length to ground, hand size, height, swing speed it may have no resemblance to how you actually address the ball and how you swing. It may be that how you address the ball there is no need for the extra length or upright lie.At 9 handicap you know your game and certainly are no mug.
Just a thought.

I got measured for a set of Ping G5's first ever set of irons custom fitted, took 2/3 months to get used to them, had them just 2 years now and i love 'em. Have faith,Don't give up on them yet, good luck

Well I reckon I'm swinging normally as the X20T's are working as normal - tbh if I "go after" the ball I tend to get better results.

Began hitting a standard black dot 7 iron. The Pro watched, took the monitor readings and we moved up to blue dot and a stiff shaft. Then he checked the lie with the sticker on the sole and we went up to green dot. He also bought out a 1/2 inch longer green dot and I hit both. After a good while we decided that the longer club was the one.

It's certainly getting me down.

Imurg, i would get rid of your old clubs immediately and stick with your new sticks. Whilst you still have them, they'll always be in the back of your mind to use them after a bad round or 2 instead.

I'm sure your capable of hitting them, you just need a few rounds getting used to them.

I don't think the range is the most ideal way of bedding in your new clubs but if you keep reverting to your old clubs you'll never learn to use them imo.

Hopefully after a few rounds they'll be the dogs gonads.

Good luck though pal ;)

Imurg: I changed 2yrs ago from my chucky old Zing2's, to my decidedly sleeker AP2's.
Whilst I LOVED the way they looked and sat behind the ball, in all honesty, they too me a good couple of months before I was anywhere close to feeling right, and finding my distances etc.

Good luck, but dont get rid of the X20's just yet. Keep them there as a threat !

Having said all that, here I am wantonly lusting after some of the new Titleist CB's or MB's........

Dohhhhhhhh

If I was you I'd go back to the fitter and let him see you hitting them and get him to double check the loft/lie etc. It may be that you've sub-consciously changed your swing etc and aren't swinging as you were when they were fitted. It guess you have three options. Stick them in the bag and just go for it. Go and check everything is OK or stick with the Callys and sell them Ping

Take it easy. Go to the range with two clubs and go right back to basics. Go for short crisp ball striking on half and three quarter shots just to get the feel of the new clubs. There may be a slight difference in the shaft behaviour or the club weight and it's just not happening for you. Go right back to basics and try that. I'm pretty sure you'll soon find the rythm needed to use these clubs.

When you find the secret Imurg i think you should give Lee Westwood a buzz as he is having similar problems with his new irons.... :D :D ;)

2 cent worth is to stick with them.

When i got CF for my AP1's last year took me a full month on the range, 3/4 times a week to get use to them and feel comfortable to commit to the shot. They were also lengthened and more upright.
