How long did it take for you to become a single handicapper ?

I got my first handicap of 28 aged about 10 years old I think. In year 1 I won a medal and Junior Captains Day and got cut to 22. I then went down to 18 and stayed there for a while before having a major step change of improvement at the age of about 13. That summer, my handicap plummeted with a series of competition rounds that were close to par and I was down to 5 before I knew it really. Lowest I ever got to was 1.4 when I was about 16/17 and I have been in single figures ever since - approaching 40 now!

In essence then, about three years to get to single figures but with big drop in a single year.

Took me 5 years to get down to 9 (with one qualifying comp' per month).
I then gave up for 5 or 6 years.
It then took another year to get back down to 9.
